Sorry about the previous goof. The puter hung up & I accidentally hit the send key where the previous reply icon was. Here's what I found on your Abial STICKNEY family, Karen: Potosi Village, Grant County, Wisconsin 1860 Federal Population Schedule 6-7 June; Page 3 of Potosi Village; Page 673 (I think this is the # assigned by LDS) Post Office - Potosi Lines 34-37, Dwelling #27, Family #23 Abial, age 30, m, Teamster, Property #240, Born Vermont Susan, 27, f, Massachussetts Andrew, 6, m, WI Charles, 1, m, WI ___ I believe there was an Abial Stickney listed for the Vermont 1850 Census, too. Thanks for the information. I didn't know about the one in VT but there is one in Mass in 1850(this census taken in Aug). My was in Cheshire Co., NH with his parents in 1850. I think that maybe this one in Mass is same as my in NH. the occupation is same and both born in VT. I have to check on date the census in NH was taken. Thanks again. I am seeking information on Betsy Ann Emery. I show a marriage between Betsy Ann EMERY and Charles M. NIBLO in Grant Co., WS on March 16, 1872. There was a daughter born in January, 1873. Her name was Daisy Lorena Niblo. Is Betsy Ann the "Elizabeth EMERY", daughter of Albert W. and Eliza Emery, found on the 1850 and 1860 Potosi, Grant Co., WS Census? Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the bio on Albert W. Emery from the 1881 History of Grant Co., WI. Does anyone know where I may get a listing of burials in 1873-74 in Grant Co.? I suspect Betsy Ann Emery Niblo died during those years. I find Charles with his daughter, mother and sister in Montogomery Co. KS in 1875. This list, as well as ALL Rootsweb lists automatically send out a letter notifying all subscribers that they have been subscribed to the list. Also the person receives a message that explains how to unsubscribe and subscribe to the list. This "Welcome letter" should always be kept to avoid this sort of thing from happening. It is the responsibility of the subscriber to subscribe and unsubscribe from any mailing list......not a requirement for the list admin to do so. Wow, Aleise comes through again! I'm sure that your added attention and observation will help many. Gosh, I think there are some more folks I can look up now. Most obits I've found (even plain death notices) seem to be MUCH better sources than death certs, and those can cost at least $7. Thanks again, Aleise! why pay someone to research military records, when if they are available you can order them directly, or get a copy on microfilm? Nara maintains federal records and if they are anywhere they would have them. Generally speaking finding them elsewhere is really hit and miss, but possible. There are several Military institutes which have archived records found nowhere else, ( like Carmichael Barracks for NY). Jeff
If you look a little further on the Dubuque TH site, they have obituaries that go back much further than that. You have to fill out a form and mail it to them and the cost is I believe $7.00 per copy. I have used this service and was somewhat pleased with the results. The copy wasn't real crisp and clear, but I think they were trying to give me only what I asked for and no other information that may have been on the same page. You can search the site first to see if the obit you are seeking is listed. It will give you a name, date of death and a little more information so that you can be sure of the results. Dave, Thank you! TROY You have the right family. How can I figure out where in NY they settled? Ironically, there are two William Troy's in the 1880 census. They are listed one on page 56 and another on 57. One is age 49 and the other is 56. They both have families. With the close proximity in the listings, I think there may be some relationship. RALPH As for William Ralph (married Rebecka Stanton Davey) I only know of one child, Columbus Stanton Ralph. His death record indicates Wisconsin as the place of birth. The marriage record does not have a place certain. They had two children about 1875 or so. Only Elsie (b. 1876) survived. I cannot lay my fingers on the death record for hte infant who died to get the right year. Any ideas? Eileen ----- Original Message ----- From: "David W. Eileen, Here is what I can provide regarding your Ralph and Troy families: 1870 Census, Platteville, Grant, WI, Household 16 William Troy, 35, Day Laborer, IRE Bridget, 30, At Home, IRE Mary Ann, 16, Domestic Servant, NY Hannah, 13, NY Sarah J., 10, NY William, 8, NY John, 7, NY Alice, 3, NY Edmund, 1, WI Here they seem to be in 1870. But, what is really strange is this: Memorable Happenings in The Grant Co. Herald, 1843-1869, Compiled by Cheryl D. Lemanski: Troy, William, formerly of Galena, IL, died Feb 1845 [on] Mississippi River, recorded in the 22 Feb 1845 issue of the Herald. How odd. How many William Troy's are there out there? Yours seems to have arrived about 1868/9 or so. But, here is one who died there in 1845. Almost inconceivable that this one is related. I don't see a positive match for William Ralph. Do you have the names of any of their children? Dave Taft
Mary..,...Being a old Navy retiree your best to start is to contact the National Personnel Records Ctr. at 9700 Page Ave St Louis, Mo. 63132-5100. They also have a website www/nara.gov/regiional/mpr.html. Everyone that joined the Navy had a Id No. During that period who mentioned it was a 6 digit number. If you have access to any of his effects by all means retrieve it. It will help to pin point him. Hope this helps Mike Dorsey in the little town of Mechanicsville, Va.
