    3. Di, Interesting question that I have wondered myself. I've never seen an explanation. Generally those enumerated next to each other are neighbors. But, you wonder in which direction the enumerator traveled. Did he go in a circle. I have often thought of the starting point myself. Think about a modern block. If he started at my house and went down the block in one direction, one of my next door neighbors would be listed far from me depending on the direction. Next door neighbors in bordering townships (right on the line) would seem miles away by the census. Does that make sense?? Hopefully someone has an explanation, but it probably varies by county/township. David

    3. I may not be able to help you, but, if you know the family you are searching for, they would be on the index for the State. This index shows the townships - thus - Name County page township.     3. Thanks to some wonderful people on the internet I was able to connect with distant cousins of my gg grandmother. There was a wonderful woman who put together a book about the Dahlenburg family history. It has over 200 pages of wonderful stories, pictures, recipes, and momentos from weddings and funerals, as well as several obits. I have asked permission to reprint parts of the book because there are so many family names from Iowa, South Dakota and Wisconsin. As I have time I will send bits and pieces that may help others. There are so many wonderfully kind and generous people out there who have become friends and have been willing to help search for information. Being a newbie- the offers have been amazing.
