Her parent's names are listed as Thomas Cooper and Christina Cooper. Information I have lists Christina Cooper's maiden name as Williamson. Are there any Coopers or Williamsons buried in or near the Muscoda area? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    1. [WIGRANT] Ancestor Loss - Half Blood - Confluent Lineage
    2. The original question regarding which term to use was posted to attain an English (American) version of a foreign language term which translates somewhat to "ancestor loss." Pedigree Collapse was the term used by the larger organizations of genealogist, and in those old anthropology articles quoting demographer K. Wachter, and Alex Shoumatoff ("The Mountain of Names") who also quotes science author Guy Murchie, apparently by anthropologists and geneticists. I did see reference to "of the half blood" used by the New England Historical and Genealogical Society, to represent the lesser loss of ancestors by the common populations as opposed to Royal lineage which have a high percentage of "collapse." To me: -Six of one, half dozen of another.- Of the ones Jeff mentions, confluence seems the more logical, evoking a pleasant mental image with the river analogy. I think the collapse term was to emphasize the great loss of numerical ancestors, and point out that our family tree model can't be an inverted p yramid. They provide the graphic diagram of a diamond shaped genealogy, where ego is the bottom and their proverbial Adam and Eve are the top. The collapse happens and progresses in similar exponential fashion to the buildup. Some of our diamonds have differing dimensions, but obviously we all have them or the scientists should have to tell us that the population of the earth was much larger (some 281 trillion) in past than it is now. Royal diamonds must have a much sharper (acute) top than common populations! OUCH :-) Di <--- thinking about rivers of diamonds... LOL j/k == In a message dated 02/2/14 9:50:31 PM, ScismGenie@aol.com writes: << NOT pedigree collapse, but I have seen it called "confluence", "A close knit family", and "circular Genealogy". Choose any from a hat. Sweden, German Duchies or Kingdoms, Scots, French, etc...... Here's the part I misquoted as the 20c Englishman being related to 80 percent of 15c English population. (make that early 13c England) From: http://www.generations.on.ca/genealogy/pedigree.htm >>"Mr. K. W. Wachtel, a demographer cited by Shoumatoff, built a probability model for a child born in England in 1947. Around the time of King John who reigned from 1199 AD to 1216 AD, this 1947 child would have about two million grandparents in the same generation. This represents about 37% of the progenitors required 30 generations back. This is the first type of pedigree ‘collapse’ that occurs. The child would be descendant from 80% of all the people in England at that time. "<< Well, of course it wasn't just the British.... (snicker) How else would we have migrated so far and wide? With all those related populations, not every younger son or daughter could have waged war on or murdered family to inherit the family lands. Sooner or later, they had to go looking for a new place to call their own. :-)~

    1. [WIGRANT] Human Pedigree - Hi Cousins!
    2. I just wanted to say hello to all of you, because you're all my cousins! <WG> Someone on another list had a question regarding the proper term used for the loss of numerical ancestors which occurs to the descendant when related persons are married. The responses were interesting, ranging from a joke about calling it incest to those who seemingly were in denial that they could possibly have had ancestors who were the product of interrelated marriages. The math is pretty cut and dry, however, and these links lead to interesting articles on the topic of the Genealogically coined term: "Pedigree Collapse" Enjoy! http://www.anatomy.usyd.edu.au/danny/usenet/sci.anthropology/archive/january-1 995/0213.html http://www.generations.on.ca/genealogy/pedigree.htm CAUTION: The first link which leads to a mail list / message board for anthropology can be very distracting! I got lost clicking link after link, reading a couple of different topic threads. Could be very divisive to genealogy research, as you may find yo urself reading through the day, and not tending to those ancestor hunts! Smiling to all her kin - the WI Grant List... Di

After scrolling through township after township, village after village, census year after census year, etc. I'm a little miffed at our past statisticians and demographers for their lack of organizational continuity. 3. Interesting! Pedigree Collapse? Hmmmmmmm.....well, we've always said "no wonder the family has problems"<g> Many of my aunts and uncles married half third cousins. My GGgrandmother married several times, but two of her marriages had offspring that intermarried down the line. In fact, my mom, and a close friend of hers in high school found they were related when they were doing a family tree as an assignment in high school! Some of my cousins are related to this same lady (my GGgrandmother) on BOTH sides of their family. Yikes!
