You might try the Karrman Library at the University of Wisconsin - Platteville. Their website is http://vms.www.uwplatt.edu/~swwis/ They have Grant County naturalization records and you can e-mail search requests to them. I am trying to find out if my GGGrandfather Ludwig Carl Julius was naturalized. According to my sources the Department of Immigration and Naturalization do not usually keep the records on naturalization, that I have to go to the County. I am wondering what the County seat in Grant County is. I am also hoping to find the name of my GGGGrandmother Julius's name was. I know she came with them, but haven't been able to find a name. Will keep looking. Thanks. Greetings Bev, Stitzer is in Liberty Township, which is just east of North Lancaster Township. Most of the city of Lancaster, the Grant County seat, is in South Lancster Township. This is according to my 1901 township map. Ron HABEL from Platteville in Vista, CA
I am looking to find out what city is the county seat for Grant County. We have always just taken for granted that GGGrandfather Julius brought is family to U.S. in 1850. But reading it over carefully, it says that they finally settled in Liberty Township and then Stitzer. I am hoping to find out when and if he or any of the family because naturalized citizens. I am ASSUMING that the children did, or at least Charles and Henry (my GGGrandfather) may have been naturalized after the Civil War. Any help I can get will be gratefully accepted. Maybe I can return the favor someday. Bev (oldcherub)

Hello List, Did any of you watch the PBS series "1900 House" where they put a modern day family in a 1900's house in England? It was excellent. Well, for the past year or so PBS has been working on a new project called "Frontier House." It runs from April 29 - May 1. Each episode is 1 hour. Here in Dallas it begins at 8:00 PM. It's basically Survivor 1880's style. For those with western pioneer families, or not, it should be an excellent series well worth watching. The introduction to the series states: "Have you ever wondered what life was really like for pioneers living in the American West during the late 19th century? How did they fare without the modern conveniences we take for granted? Could a modern-day family handle a pioneer family's lifestyle? Join us as we try to answer some of these questions." Info. on the series can be found at: http://www.pbs.org/wnet/frontierhouse/ Trust me, it will be worth watching. We might learn a little more about what our ancestors went through back than. Earlene, The Wisconsin State Genealogical Society offers Pioneer Certificates for individuals/families who settled in Wisconsin prior to 1851. Information is available at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wsgs/pioneer.htm The Grant Co. WI Genealogical Society (GCGS) has Pioneer Certificates for settles who arrived in Grant Co. prior to Dec. 31 1898. Those census records alone qualify for that. The cost is $5 per application. I'm not sure if they have a special application or not. Information from the GCGS on their program can be requested from: Joyce Esser (jesser@mhtc.net), 9611 Camel Ridge Road, Cassville WI 53806-9635 I'm not sure if you have to be a member to qualify, but Joyce can provide that information. For those on the list interested in joining the Grant Co. Genealogical Society, information can be found at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wigrant/gcgensoc.htm Dave Taft
