    1. [WIGRANT] Re: Newspaper
    2. Can anyone give me the name of the newspaper (if there is one) in Stitzer, Grant County. I am looking for obituaries for the Ludwig JULIUS family. The family came to Grant County in 1850 and settled in Stitzer. Ludwig Carl JULIUS died on 6 Feb 1886, Catherine Elizabeth Fischer JULIUS died 3 Nov 1884. When they came to the U.S., they brought Ludwig's mother with them and I have no other information on her. Any suggestions would be a great help. Thanks Bev

    3. List, Here is some additional information on Mortality Schedules: In 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880, and 1885 (where applicable - not Wisconsin), the census included inquiries about persons who had died in the year immediately preceding the enumeration. n general, the questions covered these topics: Name Age at last birthday Sex Race Marital Status Profession, occupation, or trade State, territory, or country of birth of person and parents Length of residence in county Month in which person died Disease or cause of death Place where disease contracted (if not at place of death) Name of attending physician It appears that the Wisconsin mortality schedules are housed at the Wisconsin Historical Society (formerly SHSW) in Madison, WI. I have a query to them so see if they actually have the original "books." For those what want to know everything about the census, and can handle a 15 MEG (huge) download, there is a great book in PDF (Adobe Acrobat) format available from the Census Administration at: http://www.census.gov/prod/www/abs/gen-ref.html It is called, "Measuring America: The Decennial Census From 1790 to 2000." It's a great publication, but I would download it overnight if I were you. Dave Taft

Surnames: Armfield, Mathena Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/lEC.2ACE/116.1 Message Board Post: I'm trying to unravel the spaghetti of my line of the Armfield family. My grandfather was Alfred Armfield, who was born 4/18/1888 in LeMars, Iowa. He married Bessie Mabel Mathena 8/20/1913 in Missouri Valley, Iowa, in 1918. At the time of his marriage, he was going by the name Alfred Armfield Johnson. Alfred died in June 1966 and is buried in Graceland Park Cemetery, Sioux City, Iowa. Bessie died about 1977 and is also buried in Graceland Park. Alfred's father was Wesley Armfield, b. May 24, 1842 in Tipton, Henry County, Indiana. He married Mary Fruechtenicht on May 16, 1882 in LeMars, Plymouth, Iowa. Wesley died 10/1898 in LeMars, Iowa. Mary was born September 01, 1862 in Cleveland, Ohio, and died November 15, 1942 in Sioux City, Iowa. I have Wesley's line of descent as: Wesley Armfield Isaac "Ike" Armfield (1814 to 8-17-1886) Jacob Armfield (abt 1773 - bef 1850) William "Little Billy" Armfield, Jr. (abt 1746 - abt 1833) William Armfield, Sr. (1720) John Armfield (1695-1792) Here's my query. I'm trying to find out if my Ggfather Wesley had a family other than my grandfather. I have a World Family Tree file that indicates that Wesley was married to Adalade "Addie" Rowe. They were married December 21, 1865 in Montfort, Grant, Wisconsin. Adalade was born September 25, 1846 in Wisconsin and died September 25, 1925. Also, this WFT family shows *two* people, "Adalade Addie Rowe" and "Adeline Rowe" with the same birthdate. I don't know if this is a duplicate record and an error in the database, or if there were, actually twin sisters. In searching the 1900 census, I found citations for two of the three individuals that the WTF files indicate were a result of the union between Adalade Rowe and Wesley Armfield. (The third child died before the census was conducted). There is also an "Adel~~~ Rowe in the 1900 census but the record is smudge and I can't read it. This is the information I have on the children: Charles Wesley Armfield b July 21, 1868 d March 19, 1947 Lyman Edmund Armfield b May 14, 1871m Sophia E. Stivarius March 16, 1898 Fennimore, Grant, Wisconsin Do you have any information on any of these people that would confirm or refute the existence of this other family? Of course, I will be glad to share whatever information I've gathered if you could use it. Thanks so much for your help. Paula

They somewhere along the line hitched them some horses to a wagon and headed on for Wisconsin, Platteville that is. There they had some children, that go by the names of Clarinda (1836) George Washington (July 11 1842 to December 23 1917 Hulett Wyoming (he passed away there) Elnora she was born in 1846, after her came Thomas J and that could stand for Thomas Jefferson (1848) and last of all James Knox (February 15 1849 to January 2 1927. He is buried in Westfield Wisconsin. I do know that George once was married to a woman by the name of Eliza Liscom. Together they had a total of ten children the last one dying at a very tender age, perhaps in infancy. Her name was Onona Pearl. I ! am not sure of the year but Eliza came in contact with the measles and she died shortly after she gave birth to Onona. George after her death, just up and left his other nine kids. I need to know more about the Jones family of Platteville Wisconsin. James by the way is my g grandfather. He had up to 11 or 12 kids.
