Hallo all, I am in Polegate, East Sussex UK. I am searching for any descendants of great uncles Frederick PARISH and Robert Edward PARISH born 1880 and 1887, Enfield, North London UK. It is believed they emigrated to US before 1905 and wonder if they went to Wisconsin. I understand from a lister on the Racine county list there are some PARISH marriages in your Grant county and wonder if I could please ask someone to do a look up for me. Also, does anyone belong to a Parish family or know of a Parish family. I would love to hear. Thank you from Jackie Ade, Polegate, East Sussex UK

I have recently purchased a Generations Archive (CD from Heritage Quest) for the 1870 Wisconsin federal census. If you need some information, feel free to ask, I will be happy to do a look-up for you as time permits. Be as specific as possible, including the head of household and county. If you like, results can be posted to the list. Kindly place WI-1870 CENSUS in the subject line and mail to me at: leengeo@bigfoot.com. Eileen Saint Paul, Minnesota

Hi list! I have recently purchased the complete 1880 Census CD's including the Index. I will be happy to do lookups for anyone wanting one for Wisconsin. Please -- I ask that you give complete name of head of household and county if known. Do NOT ask me to look for all POHLE'S,etc. One lookup request at a time and no other requests until I have posted the results. I will be happy to post these to the list if you would like me to. Put WI-1880 CENSUS in the subject line to me at: NelliBlu28@aol.com Again do not ask me to look for ALL "SURNAME'S". It must be a specific full name of the head of household. If you know the county they lived in, be sure you include this in your message to me. I will try to respond in a timely manner but please understand that I maintain a 3 large web sites and 12 Rootsweb mail lists. Robin and all else interested. Interlibrary loan is a great help. Don't hesitate to ask for something even if it might seem that it wouldn't be loaned. I have gotten really neat items that I thought shouldn't have been loaned, such as a home bound book of some of my family. It had a copper cover and was just neat. A lot of libraries will not loan genealogy books because they cost so much and because if they are lost in mail may not be able to be replaced. I do Interlibrary loan for a living a college. Try any way, the worst that can happen is a no, no. A lot of places will loan microfilm of newspapers. As the subject said, Interlibrary loan is an overlooked source. If the book can't be loaned ask for table of contents or Index. Marge Weimer

I have lost my copy of my 2nd great grandmother's info on the 1855 Grant Co. state census. Does anyone have a copy they could E-Mail to me of where she was that year. Her name was Elizabeth (Betsy) TAYLOR B. 1808 in Orange Co., N.Y. Probably listed as a widow, since she divorced her husband and moved with her children to Grant Co., C 1852-3. She owned a home in Bloomington, but she sometimes rented it and moved in with one of her children. They were: 1. Lydia B 1830 in PA, Married Jabez WILSEY in 1847.in PA 2. Alice, B. 1832 in PA, Mar to Hiram HUDSON C 1855 In WI 3. Alexander B. 1835 in PA, Mar Marie A. C 1858 in WI 4. Melvina B 1837 in PA, mar to Byron HUDSON 13 Sep 1853 in WI 5. Lorenzo B 1843 in PA, Died at Andersonville Confederate Prison 26 Aug 1864. I need her where-abouts in 1855 to establish they were in Wisconsin then tp establish residency for the Pioneer Certificate. Lydia and Jabez had a baby in 1853 who only lived 8 months and he's buried at the Dodge Cemetery, but that only proves they were there, not ELizabeth. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. If you are looking for current obituaries, I keep a list of those in the Grant County Herald Independent, Fennimore Times, Boscobel Dial and Tri County Press. Dave and Di, you have both been very helpful. Tomorrow I will go to the local LDS library and start my search there. I'm doing something that I probably shouldn't, but am researching both my mother's and my father's family. Both came to America and settled in Wisconsin. One in Watertown (Jefferson/Dodge) and Stitzer (Grant). I am also putting together a family reunion for Mom's side in July. Am still trying to locate living relatives in Grant County and in Iowa. I appreciate the advice and information. Bev

Di and Bev, >From what I can tell, "most" of the records at the State are the same as those in the County. They are in different formats, however. I've never gotten a real good answer to why. Either the County sent copies to the state, or the County courthouse filled out the states record books. There are some differences, but I would think they are 90%+ identical. The County records are available at the courthouse in Lancaster. The State records are available from the Wisconsin Bureau of Health Statistics in Madison, WI. The State pre-1907 index is available by subscription on Ancestry.Com. It's also available on microfiche from the LDS and some libraries. The references from the State index will provide you the Volume Number for the State's records. These are also available on microfilm through the LDS. The Grant Co. Genealogical Society cemetery records are great. And for $3 per surname, for every burial in the county for that surname, are a bargain. Dave Taft
Dear Robin, I recently discovered the benefits of Interlibrary loan. I found information on a book about my family line but was unable to locate a copy. I contacted my local library and the interlibraray loan department put out a search for the book. They were unable to get me a copy, but did get a copy of the introduction which contained the author's name and address. I wrote to him and he sent me an e-mail copy of the book! It's definitely worth trying your library for interlibrary loans! pugs87 ----- Original Message ----- From: "Robin Hoff Kaspar" <robinkaspar@attbi.com> To: <WIGRANT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, June 11, 2002 6:45 AM Subject: [WIGRANT] Interlibrary loan--an overlooked resource > I want to share my experiences with the local interlibrary loan department. > I live in a state where none of my ancestors ever lived so I have no need > for local research.
