Hi, I just subscribe to Wigrant and want to say Hello from Germany. My family lives in Grambergen, parish of Schledehausen, county of Osnabrück in Lower Saxony for at least 400 years. The brother of my great-great-grandfather, named Christoph Heinrich Waldmann, emigrated to the United States in 1866 and settled in Stitzer, Grant County, in 1870. His wife Marie Elisabeth came from Haltern which belongs to the neighboring parish Belm. While doing family research I got to know that other people from this area settled in Grant County, too. I found Niemann (from Grambergen to Fennimore) and Wefel (from Krevinghausen to Stitzer). I'm interested in any information about emigrants from the parish of Schledehausen and the parish of Belm that settled in Grant County. I know that many Ellises in Grant descend from the Washington Ellis line, but I can't confirm that ours are connected. My ggrandfather, James Russell Ellis, was born in Beetown in 1874. His parents were Jabez Stephen Ellis and Susanna Carter. We cannot track Jabez down. We know he was born ca. 1826 Saratoga, NY . One relative has found him on the 1850 Grant census. His mother was named Sarah, and he had a brother named John. Jabez was half indian, but we do not know the tribe. His other children were: Clarinda b. 1867, Amy, Phyllis, William Walter, Susan, Elizabeth, and Ivy. Does anyone recognize these names? Also, I'm wondering if anyone has these names: Sarah Ellis married John Cottle 1845 Caleb Ellis married Nancy Moore 1854 Enoch Ellis I am wondering if these folks are related to mine. Thanks so much, Julie

Thanks Earlene, Common surnames can be a pain to research, but it can't hurt to try long shots in hopes of digging up a connection. I hope you do find that brickwall buster and locate your WILSEY cousins and info on Lydia! Did you ever find Elizabeth's land purchase records? It doesn't look like Lydia's brother, Alexander had time to have many, if any children (Charles?). Unless that family had some male cousins who traveled from PA to WI with or before them, they don't appear to be related TAYLOR to he who married Rebecca RISTER. Allan TAYLOR, mentioned in previous posts re the surname, may prove a relation. When I get time to track that family, I'll order a list of TAYLOR burials from the GCGS. Various kin have been grateful to avail them of that service for a number of surnames during that last couple of decades. That wonderful service would have saved many of us a lot of paper cuts, mosquito bites, and sore feet and necks, if available a decade or so, earlier. <G> I neglected to include dates on the HARVEY-SHINOE marriages. Though they aren't likely a match with your folk, as you've pointed out, for those who may read these messages looking for these names, I'll key the dates. As quoted below, the marriages took place 1875 and 1878, respectively. Hny HARVEY b. 1847 Jas b. abt. 1852, Remsen, IA. Keep on diggin! ... Hi, Regretfully, none of what you sent fits into anything that I have. The HARVEY"S were never in Wisconsin that I know of, except to visit the WILSEY's and the grandmother Elizabeth (VAN TUYL) TAYLOR. The TAYLORS that are connected with Elizabeth are her brother a-in-law and sister-in-law Noah and Amanda, who are also buried in the Dodge Cemetery, along with the HUDSON's, Elizabeth's sons-in-law and daughters, the WRIGHT's, her brother-in-law and sister-in-law. They're all in Dodge Cemetery. In looking through my files, I find a lot of Taylor's buried in Grant County, but I never sent for the booklet. I got all my information from Mrs. Jentz, who kindly searched for my ancestors. That was about 20 years ago, so I don't know what the process is now. I'm sure that someone in the society can tell you more about the cemeteries than I can. Thank you for writing. I pur out a query ever 6 months or so in hopes that someone has found something new. Truthfylly, I'm about ready toclose my searches for good. I have five brick walls I've been struggling with for many years, and I'm beginning to think there is no answer to them. Thank you for writing and Good Hunting. Earlene Hutsell
