Any Haneys out there? I'm trying to discover the family of my great-great-great-grandmother Priscilla Haning/Haney, who migrated to Grant County about 1834. Priscilla married (1) Nimrod Harrison 1834 Iowa County (2) Zachariah Lyons 1838 Iowa County. She lived in the Blake's Prairie area of Bloomington/Tafton area. First marriage record lists her as Priscilla Haning, but I can't find any other Hanings anywhere in Grant County. I suspect she is a Haney. Believe she migrated through the Ohio/Indiana/Wisconsin route. One census record shows her birthplace as Kentucky, but I have no other evidence of that. Her birthdate is listed as 1815 in the 1850 census. Thanks for any help you can give me. Linda

Hi Mary, Rapid City is in Western South Dakota located at the foot of the Black Hills. I have several friends/classmates who have the last name of Knapp. My mother's father, Adolph Julius came here from Nebraska, where he and my Grandmother lived after living in Wisconsin. He is a grandson of Ludwig Carl Julius and was born in Stitzer, Grant County, Wisconsin. Don't know if this helps any. My father's mother came here from Watertown, Jefferson/Dodge Wisconsin. However he had several nephews who settled in Iowa. Hi, Beverly. How far is Rapid City from Dell Rapids? One branch of my Knapp family, the Pabsts, relocated from Grant County to the Dell Rapids area (in the early 1880s, I believe). Did your family migrate from WI to SD, also? Mary Thiele Fobian Independent Writer/Editor Associate Editor, Reunions Magazine

I looked up Gurley Eastman for you in the census records. In 1920, he and Lily and the 3 girls were living in Compton, Los Angeles Co., CA. Their entry, below, shows that their Violet was not yours. It would have been nicer if I could tell you she was but at least I answered your question: 1920 federal census -- Compton, LA Co., CA: EASTMAN, Gurley, age 54, born WI. Hello I am searching for any information on R J Kinney and his daughter Mary J. Kinney. Mary J. Kinney married William Faull in Iowa, but they were both born in Grant County. I have found a biographical sketch of R J Kinney from Grant County which mentions his daughter Mary married William Farrell, their adoptive child and they were living in Polk County, OR. I do know that Mary Kinney Faull and William Faull had foster child, but her name is listed as Mary, Margaret and sometimes Josephine surname: GRAAP. I have a hard time finding anything on this GRAAP Surname. -- Thanks, Sandy __________________________________________________________________ Your favorite stores, helpful shopping tools and great gift ideas. Does anyone have anyone information about Charles or Charlie Ivens? His father was John D. Ivens from England and Keziah Moore. Charles was born about 1870. He married Lucy Collins in Grant Co. on December 29, 1888. He had many children, including my grandmother, Mary Priscilla Ivens. The family moved to Waterloo, Iowa about 1907. He was a carpenter. He died on March 11, 1912 and Lucy moved to Seattle with several of her daughters. I want to find out where Charles died and where he is buried. I would also like to know when and where Lucy died. Thank you, Priscilla Dean Waterloo, Iowa Pridean@aol.com

No, I am not 100% certain this family lived in Hazel Green proper, I know they were in southwest Wisconsin, most likely Grant County. I'm told by older relatives who remember family stories that Hazel Green was the town they believe the Stephens lived, and I am trying to confirm. Another name is Joseph (middle initial E. or B.) Stephens, born 12/21/1818 in Cornwall, died 9/6/1864 in a mining accident at the Cliff Mine in Eagle River, Michigan. This man is related (maybe Joseph is James, mixed up in records over the years!) since he ended up in Michigan via Wisconsin too. When did mining activity start to wane in southwestern Wisconsin?
