I am trying to find out when my GGGrandmother died. In the Census of 1870 in Glen Haven, Grant Co., WI her husband was (William) Henry Winney and she had an under-one year old daughter named Anna Elizabeth Winney. By the Census of 1885, (William) Henry Winney was married to Mary L. Winney and had more children. Can anyone direct me to the cemetery/death record of Elizabeth (Taylor) Winney? (Spellings are: Whinney, Winnie, Winney) Kathleen

Since you're looking for death date, burial location, etc. I suggest joining the Grant County Genealogical Society ($7 annual); they will send you a list of all WINNEY burials in Grant County for a fee of only $3.00. More information is provided at http://www.rootsweb.com/~wigrant/gcgensoc.htm A Fountain TAYLOR (born circa 1818 in Virginia, died before 1870 in Beetown, Grant, Wisconsin) and wife Delilah had several children, one of whom was named Sarah E. I had always assumed, from the 1870 Census Record, that (Wm.) Henry Winney's first wife was Elizabeth (Taylor) Winney of Glen Haven, Grant Co., WI. Then just recently someone gave me a copy of William Henry Winney's Last Will and Testament in which he speaks very clearly about giving his daughter the sum of $500--his daughter Anna Elizabeth Spencer--born Anna Elizabeth Winney. In the same Will, he gives his wife MARY L. Winney his estate for the duration of her life. The will was made out in 1901 and W.H. Winney died in 1907. Anna Elizabeth (Winney) Spencer was definitely my GGrandmother. I only heard of Elizabeth Taylor Winney as the wife of William Henry Winney thru the 1870 Census. The 1870 Census for William "Henry" Winney was in Glen Haven, Grant County, WI. The wife that was listed was Elizabeth and there was only one child, Anna E. (under-one years old.) By the time Anna E. married, she was in Sibley, Osceola Co., Iowa. How do I go about verifying that Elizabeth Taylor was actually Anna Elizabeth Spencer's mother? If she is, when did she die and Mary L. become William Henry Winney's wife? I do have a Census where William "Henry" Winney's wife was Mary L. in 1885. I am also seeking to find out about the Indian blood of Anna Elizabeth Winney. She was born in Glen Haven, Grant Co., WI. But the family always understood her to be part-Indian (not metaphorically as some people always are first to suggest). Thanks for any help. Kathleen LPurch6636@aol.com
I've been trying the Grant County biography website and keep being told that there isn't any such place. Can you check and see if yours goes through? I don't know what the problem is as I've followed it very carefully.

I am new at the job but am learning that it will be better off to list the actual facts in "[ ]" when the biographies are a little off or completetly off, to better others research. I wonder if you could send me an email. Forgive me if I don't get back to you right away, as we are beginning to move today and I am not sure how much time I will have and when the computer/phone line will be down. However, I would like more information on the "Hecktor" so I may post a note on the bio. I am researching the Faull family from Grant County. Rihcard Faull and Elizabeth (Rogers) Faull. The family arrived in Penn, abt. 1842. It becomes confusing because they left back to England (Probably because Richard Faull's mother died) To return to America and settle in Grant 1848. I do have a brickwall there in WI, Nettie Faull married Newton Jeffers in Plymouth Co., Iowa. Well I cannot find Newton's mother. She was Almira Scott, She married Isaac Newton Jeffers and they were living in Rock County, WI 1860 in the household was a Horace M. Scott, these people do not exsist except for the 1860 census record. Thanks for the reply, Hope to hear from you soon. Sandy

Basicaly I want to know the parents of Desire Chausse (maybe got married in Wisconsin, with Eliza Hamilton around 1859). Since I dont find this marriage, I know he was enrolled in the civil war in Boscobel with Francis Xavier Chausse in 1865. So maybe they are brother, if so, Desire has good chance to be the witness of Francis Xavier for Francis's marriage. I would like to see if they detailed the status of the witness on the marriage document. Francis Xavier Chausse got married in april 11th 1866 with Mary Goff in Boscobel, Grant, Wisconsin. What can I do to see a copy of this marriage? Thank you (Sorry for the bad english writing) Richard Chaussé
My Great-Great-grandfather, Ludwig Carl Julius brought his mother with him when he brought his family to America. The only things I know about her is that she came with him, her last name would have been Julius and that she was buried in a lot in Liberty which was later sold to the Brihl family. Is there someplace I can send for information about this lady. I appreciate any help you can give me. Beverly Miller (oldcherub) SD
If you have time could you check for me William Henry Hunt, Christopher Jackson, and Francis (or Frank) Bonham, all of Potosi, I believe on that date. Can those plat maps be borrowed by interlibrary loan? They sound wonderful.

Alyse, you say you show ALL of Grant Co.? I would love to know or find out where I can get a copy of that? would the gen society have it? I want to know where Susannah Powell's land was. as I understand her land is now part of the the town of Boscobel. she was not showing a husband in 1850 BUT in 1847 she had purchase 120 acres in Grant co, she is buried in the Boscobel cem. some of her land went to her son John Powell, he died in the war, it then went to his widow Luzena Bates Powell & her daughter Susannah Powell. confusing huh? she also either sold some to her son John &Luzena before he left for the war........Jo Ann Loghry in beautiful downtown Arkansas. dripping wet too for the humidity.......
The closest I find on the 1918 map is 160 acres in Sections 30 and 31 of Wingville Township owned by B. L. Walker and 240 acres in Section 30 of Wingville Township owned by Thos. Watchorn Jr. There is also 240 acres in Sections 29, 30 & 31 of Wingville Township owned by W. A. Walter. In Clifton Township there is a U. W. Walter who owns 160 acres in sections 5, 6 & 8. John, I have gone through the Plat book and do not find any Dvorak's listed. I look at each piece of land in Muscoda Township and Castle Rock Township and didn't find any there either. If you relatives lived in the town of Muscoda, they would not be listed since a Plat map only shows country landowners. Could it be that their land is actually in Iowa County? The border is right along side the town of Muscoda.
