Hello veterans and newbies of the rootsweb. There are some really great folks who are willing to help just for the asking. I, myself do Volunteer research at Andersonville Civil War Prison in Andersonville Georgia. There are Any research I do is absolutely at NO cost and I am willing to do what I can. There are 629 prisoners on record from the state of Wisconsin and almost 300 who died here, I thought I would send my offer. I feel the need to say I am not in anyway trying to focus on the horrors of Andersonville compared to any POW camp in the north ..( i.e.Elmira ) or any others and do not wish to stir up arguments on this site. My focus is dedicated to ALL of those held prisoner during this war , on both sides as well as all Americans who gave their freedoms for those that we enjoy today.. I just happen to be near Andersonville so this is where I do my work. I will also do lookups for any solder from any state . Here are my sources of research. There are 2 online databases to do lookups.....One by name...one by Company and Regiment. I also have a copy of the Dorence Atwater Death list which has the names and grave numbers of 12960 graves with only 460 marked as " UNKNOWN " This along with a CD I have which contains 34,000 names of the 45,000 who were imprisoned there which helps me find prisoner records because of misspellings of the names or alternate names. I visit the prison site every couple of weeks and have access to the onsite databases as well as the physical files. I would like to let you know of another service I offer which is to take photos of graves for a small fee. Please do not consider this spam as my research offer is FREE for the asking and will be posted on this county site only once. If there is anything I can do in helping your research at Andersonville, please just ask. Linda, I checked Boscobel Township, Marion Township and Watterstown Townships for around Boscobel. Highland is in Iowa County, but I checked Castle Rock Township, which would be close to Highland. There is a Mary Haney in Watterstown Township Section 9, with 56.3 acres of land, right along the Wisconsin River. She also has 40 acres in Section 19 of Watterstown Township. No Haney's listed in any of the other townships. Aleise Oyen ----- Original Message ----- From: "L. Dear Aleise, *Thank* you so very much for checking. Kathleen
This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Wedekind, Widekind Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/lEC.2ACE/460.1.1 Message Board Post: Thank you so much!!!. I'm pretty sure this is my ggGrandfather. What are your thoughts on the spelling? Might it have been Widekind originally? Or always Wedekind with a misspelling on this occasion? The questions just become more and more the further you go.
Aliese, Could you please check your map for William H. and/or William J. Winney? William J. was Constable in the 1850's. William H. was born in 1832. In Glen Haven, Grant Co. Thanks fo very much. Kathleen
Kathleen, I checked Glen Haven and Bloomington Townships, and found no Winney's listed. Oops, sorry, For John Haney Sr try Highland, he lived there in 1850. and for John Walker Haney (son) I know at one time he lived in Sylvester, but that is a different county. but Boscobel is another town he may have been in. Linda
Don, I looked all around Centerville and there are no Mills listed. I do not find Hardscrabble on any of the maps. Not sure where that would be. I did check all of Wingville Township, which is where Centerville is located. It is right on the line between Grant and Iowa counties. Aleise Oyen ----- Original Message ----- From: "D. Amy, I finally had time to take a look through the 1860 census pages of Potosi Twp. The STEVENS families I found were: John Stevens 41 Lead miner b. Ireland (probably - plat map) Julia 27 Jane 81? Mary Jane 2 b. WI John W. 1 Mary Stevens 42 Farmer b. Eng. Janine? 23 Thomas 19 Richard 12 Margarett? Stevens? 24 Farmer b. Eng. Mary J. 6 Elizabeth 4 Is it possible your James died and the birth date on Elizabeth is off a little? Hope this helps. WIDEKIND, JOSEPH married SCHUCHART, VICTORIA on 8 Feb 1887 in Grant County, WI And I found Joseph in the 1900 Wisconsin census with several children (including a Henry) and a length of marriage that fits your Joseph & Victoria; the wife is listed as DORA, but this might have been due to the census-taker's mis-hearing of the name "Victoria" or perhaps she was called "Dora" as a diminutive. This Joseph immigrated in 1884 and was naturalized in the state of Pennsylvania. Hi dear All I know is that all of the censuses i have of my Dvoraks in Muscoda, say that the township they lived in was Muscoda Township and the city of Muscoda... I don't know anything about any Iowa County connections. Thanks for trying..... sincerely John Dvorak ----- Original Message ----- From: Aleise Oyen To: WIGRANT-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Sunday, August 04, 2002 5:07 PM Subject: Re: [WIGRANT] Grant Co. Plat Maps John, I have gone through the Plat book and do not find any Dvorak's listed. I look at each piece of land in Muscoda Township and Castle Rock Township and didn't find any there either. If you relatives lived in the town of Muscoda, they would not be listed since a Plat map only shows country landowners. Could it be that their land is actually in Iowa County? The border is right along side the town of Muscoda.
