    2. As a person born amidst Catholics, my understanding was always that the "odd name" or "names" were usually for Saints and received at baptism. In the case of Prince Charles--of the Church of England persuasion-- isn't his litagy of names for the same reason? In German naming conventions, the first male was often named for his father or godfather. (Who was named for a Saint or someone from the Bible. ) Kathleen

    3. Hi, Beverly. Not knowing what your source of information is, I might be completely off on this theory, but for what it's worth: You say that Ludwig's son's name is listed as Louis Karl Julius followed by (Ludwig). Perhaps the parenthetical indicates that Ludwig is the father of Louis. Following this convention, the listing of (John Bernard) after Ludwig's name might indicate that John Bernard is Ludwig's father. >My gggrandfather, Ludwig Karl Julius, settled in Grant County ca1850. My >source of information lists his name as Ludwig Karl Julius, but in >parenthsis is (John Bernard) supposedly a baptismal name. Can anyone >explain to me the custom. 3. Mary, my source of information is the greatgrandson of Ludwig. I know that Ludwig was my GGrandfather's name as it appears in the Liberty Township Census of 1860. It also listed Louis (Ludwig) and the other children. Including my Greatgrandfather Henry. The Ggrandson of Ludwig, Kenneth Julius, did a family booklet listing all of the early families. Those are the only two names that show that identification. The only thing that I can't figure out is how John Bernard could be a baptismal name for Ludwig Karl. I have just made connections with the Julius family that remained in Wisconsin and they can't answer the question either. Ludwig and family were Methodists and belonged to the German Methodist Church in Stitzer. I am wondering if it was the practice among that generation of Germans. My father's family also came from Germany, but from a different sector and were Lutheran. Thank you for the thought it is a possibility. If nothing else I will continue to search for the answer. My source of information lists his name as Ludwig Karl Julius, but in parenthsis is (John Bernard) supposedly a baptismal name. Can anyone explain to me the custom. I'm having a hard time understanding the differences in his names. He had a son named Louis Karl Julius (Ludwig) as baptismal name. That one makes sense to me the other doesn't. 3. from the Muscoda Progressive, August 1, 2002 Pulaski Presbyterian Plans to Dissolve Congregation at Year's End Members of Pulaski Presbyterian Church, rural Muscoda, voted at a special meeting Sunday, July 21, to dissolve the congregation effective December 29. The Pulaski Presbyterian Church was organized by 27 people May 24, 1862. The orginal church was a log building, located on the hillside where the church cemetery is now located. The current building was erected in 1873 at a cost of $2,000. Plans are being made for a worship event to celebrate the more than 140 years of ministry by the people of the Pulaski Church.

    3. I really do appreciate the help I have been given in the past and probably will in the future. I just came from the Black Hills Genealogical Society for Research. I understand that we are in the process of getting a website so that people like me will begin to get some answers. I am also on the Iowa Website and have received good help there also. I'm still looking for answers. Dave, you seem to know what is availbable through the Register of Deeds or Clerk of Court offices. I have several things I am looking for. I am trying to find out if my GGGrandfather Ludwig Karl Julius, my GGGrandmother, Catherine, my GGGGrandmother, my GGrandfather Henry Julius or any of his siblings became naturalized citizens. Do I need to check with the same office? I also would like marriage certificates for GGrandfather Henry Julius and GGrandmother Anna Hallenberger; my grandfather Adolph Julius and Kittie Ann Baker. I also need to find out if there are birth certificates for Adolph and his brothers and sisters. I show Henry and Anna; Emma, Adolph, Anna Katherina, Charles, Louis, Fred, John or Alma Julius. I also need to know the cost for each of these as I may have to budget them into my budget. One of the biggest challenges I face is that there is only the mention that GGGGrandmother Julius came with the family from Darmstadt, Germany sometime in the 1850s. A very nice lady from the Society sent me tombstone readings for the Methodist Church cemetery. However, my GGGGrandmother died in Liberty, before they moved to Stitzer and was buried in an unmarked grave in a lot that was later sold to Brihl family. I don't even know that the grave still exists. Thanks to all of you who responded to my google question. Bev

    1. [WIGRANT] Townsend Murder??
    2. David W. Taft
    3. Roxanne, I'm not related and have no other details on this death, but can provide the following: From, "Highlights of The Fennimore Times, alias Times Review, 1889-1899," compiled by Cheryl D. Lemanski: Townsend, Mr., kills wife Sept, 1885. Also, Olive Watson Townsend died Sep 1885. Both recorded in the 19 Mar 1897 issue of the Fennimore Times. Hard to say what else this issue might contain, but it might be worth requesting. To get a copy of the article, you should write to the Dwight T. Parker Library in Fennimore, WI. I would send them a self addressed stamped envelope and a couple dollars with your request and they will probably copy it for you. The address is: Dwight T. Parker Public Library 955 Lincoln Ave. Fennimore, WI 53809 608-822-6294 As for the court records, I've never requested anything like that before. They may be available, but might cost a few bucks to get copies. They should be in the Courthouse in Lancaster. For that I would recommend hiring a local research like LaVon Hall. I don't know her current rates, but years ago it was $5/hr plus copies. Copies might be the expensive part. You can write to her at: LaVon Hall 449 S. Harrison St. Lancaster, WI 53813 Hope this helps out. Dave Taft Arlington, TX
