List, These Mortality Schedules are now posted at the USGenWeb Archives. You can find the links at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/wi/grant/grant.htm These Schedules were a supplement to the Population Schedules. They "should" include those individuals in the household who died from the preceding June through May 31 of the census year. i.e. The 1850 Mortality Schedule should list individuals who died between June 1, 1849 through May 31, 1850. As with any old records, they are only as good as the enumerator who recorded them. I have alphabetized these records to make review easier. There are still a few questionable name/spellings on the list. If you find one of your ancestors misspelled, please drop me a line and I will correct it. While transcribing these I did recognize many of the names from queries I have read and/or responded to in the past few years. Take a look if you had someone die in the years covered. The files are WIDE so be sure to scroll all the way to the right of the screen. Some interesting, and tragic causes of deaths. While not in Grant Co., the 1870 Crawford Co. Mortality Schedule included an unknown individual. His occupation was listed as "Burglar" and the cause of death "shot - homicide." Hopefully in the next few months I will be able to get 1880 done. The schedules were prepared for 1850 - 1900. Unfortunately, the 1890 and 1900 Mortality Schedules were destroyed. Enjoy, Dave Taft Arlington, TX

I have been researching my GGGrandmother (Sarah) Elizabeth (Taylor) Winney who died in 1871 at the age of 19. The problem that I seem to keep running into is: How many Taylor families were there in the areas of Glen Haven twp and Beetown twp? If you recall, I had thought that I found Sarah Elizabeth's parents in Fountain & Delilah Taylor; then found that "their" Sarah E. (who was born at the same time as *my* GGGrandmother) had a different record of marriage. Now I have found a seeming qualified answer to "Who are (Sarah) Elizabeth Taylor's parents" in Jonathon and Mary Ann Taylor. But the fact that Beetown and Glen Haven are so close together has got me to thinking: Could Jonathon Taylor actually be related to Fountain Taylor after all; just not their son? It seems to me it would depend on how many *different* Taylor families there were in Beetown and Glen Haven say between 1849 and 1875? Can someone please help me with this? Best Regards and Many Thanks for the Kind, Kind Help I have received on this List... Kathleen LPurch6636@aol.com

I am hoping that the flaw is a mis-reading of the tombstone or cemetery record because everything else is correct! Here are the Winneys who I believe are my family members who are buried in Scott Cemetery: "W. H. For example, he was mentioned in the 1870 Glen Haven twp. Census record, with wife Elizabeth (she was Sarah Elizabeth) and under-one year old Anna Elizabeth Winney (my GGrandmother). So he was alive at least up to the point where they took the Census record that year. W.H. Winney of Grant Co., with daughter Anna E., remarried a widow Mary Hickock Stryphen in 1873. And W.H. Winney's Will had the first person mentioned in the Will as my GGrandmother, even before his second wife was mentioned in 1907. So W.H. Winney dying in 1870 just doesn't jibe although everything else about the Scott Cemetery record does jibe! And he seems to be buried near W.J. Winney who is my GGGGrandfather whose wife was named Anna E. as well. So what am I to do about W.H. Winney's death occurring in in 1870 according to the Scott Census records??? Welcome to the list, Joyce. Joyce, I actually have a transcript of burials in the Boscobel Cemetery that was compiled several years ago by Burdette Coberly of Crawford Co. Burdette transcribed all Crawford Co. cemeteries which are available at the Crawford Co. web site. Please send the names you are looking for and I'll let you know what I find. I still need to format this file and hope to get it posted on the USGenWeb archives eventually. This evening I'll see if I can locate the actual name and address of the cemetery and/or association responsible for it. Hi Grant Co. Listers, I am new to the list as I have just been informed that I may have ancestors buried in Boscobel cemetery. Could anyone please furnish me with a phone number/address/e-mail address for this cemetery? Does anyone have any idea as to how far back their records extend? I am looking in the time frame of the mid 1800's. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter, and happy researching. Joyce McDaniel Hennessy Buffalo Grove, IL

I need to find out if my GGGrandfather, Ludwig Carl Julius became a naturalized citzen as well as his children, Louis, Sophia, Charles, Henry and Catherine. I would like to know the costs of these documents as well as death certiciates and birth certificates. I have the address and phone number of the Grant County Courthouse, but thought it would be better to know how much to send before sending a letter asking for someone to locate these things for me. Thanks for all the help you have been giving me. Bev Miller (oldcherub@rap.midco.net)
