    3. Robin, I cannot believe anyone claiming an authentic interest, much less experience, in genealogical research would fault the GCGS on cemetery records!! Indeed you are one of the few and earliest to have so much in this area online. As one living quite far away, it is with great appreciation that I have received so much generous help over the past few years from the society -- even photographs of the markers. As I have focused on other geographic areas recently I am even more appreciative and proud of having roots in the county. (Which reminds me I need to re up my membership.) I won't name the names of folks so helpful but you all know who you are. Thanks for all you do and for being so cordial in the doing!! 2. I took some photos of tombstones, in Hillside and Greenwood Cemeteries, of my relatives a few years ago and would be happy to share them if I could only figure out how to get them in an e-mail. BELLMEYER, HAMILTON, HABEL, ISRAEL, CHADWICK, CHAPMAN plus others. Ron HABEL

More hands, the better. I don't live in Grant County (matter io fact, I live two days of hard driving away from the nearest Wisconsin state border), but I'll be more than happy to do what I can to get cemeteries and databases online. For example, if someone wants to go out and take pictures of a cemetery, they can email the .jpgs, .pngs, or .bmps to me, and I'll make up a html friendly format to upload on the county website, rootsweb or whatever. I can even make a .txt if someone would think that would be equally as helpful. Regards, Diane (Researching Michael Schenk b 1804 Germany, died 1878)

    3. Hi, All. I live in Grant County and I'd be glad to help photograph grave markers. I do a lot of research online and I know I'm always very appreciate when I find cemetery info online. 3. I'd like to explain my position regarding putting cemetery listings on the Grant County website. I have recently received a very snotty email about Grant County not having online listings like *most* county websites do, a "fact" I would throw out as absurd since I know from my own research that it is not close to being true. In fact, USGenWeb has only a few minimum requirements, which my site far exceeds. Cemetery and vital records listings are not required. The truth is that the Grant County Genealogical Society copied all the county cemeteries many years ago; they keep their records updated from published obituaries and they are not interested in putting their data online. However, they don't "own" the data and anyone can copy/photograph the stones as far as I know. Larry and Linda Kopet have taken an amazing number of photographs around the state and Tina Vickery has done an equally amazing amount of work putting those digital photos online. There are a number of county websites that have put cemetery/obituary/vital records info online and I am truly grateful to them for the help they have been to me with my research. Once I saw what they were doing, I decided to do what I could with what little I have in my own files and open it up to y'all to help me build it up. Yes, I shed a tear because as a member of the Society, I feel like I'm between a rock and a hard place. Maybe they'll change their minds one day and let me computerize their info and put it online. Or maybe they'll start their own site and do it themselves. We can only hope. Please understand that I'm not looking for sympathy or anything for myself by what I write here. It seems there might be a misconception about what the county websites are "supposed" to have online and I just want to set the record straight. I live in Virginia and don't get to visit Grant County often enough to copy cemeteries myself. I'll bet most of you reading this don't live near Grant County either. But I have plans to do some small cemeteries close to me here as they are not online. Look around where you live. Can you help copy cemeteries in your area that are not online? If we all do what we can locally everyone wins. And, wink wink, if you do live near Grant County consider helping me out next spring/summer/fall. Maybe we can put together a plan to photograph some cemeteries that the Kopets haven't gotten to yet; it seems a waste of time to duplicate their efforts (or anyone else's).
