JoAnn, Grant Co., WI began recording deaths in 1876. There may be a few pre-1876 deaths in the records, but they would be the exception. The State of Wisconsin began recording vital records in 1907. However, many of the early 1900 records are missing. I can't be sure, but suspect the 1876-1907 death records probably only contain 30-40% of the actual deaths. Marriages are the best of the early Wisconsin vital records. For them, I would estimate 95% from the 1850's were recorded in the County and/or State records. Dave Taft
I would be interested to know how far back this death index by Katleen Wolfe goes? I am looking for a death of Susannah Powell in Grant Co. Boscobel but it's from 1866. would this be listed? Jo Ann Loghry in AR. always looking for "Ole Susannah" Powell...............
JoAnn, since you already know the death year, I wonder whether you've already obtained POWELL surname burial information from Grant County Genealogical Society, &/or received a death record from the Grant County recorder's office. It is in the California State Archives in Sacramento, donated by one of his descendents. It stops at the foot of the Sierra Nevadas which is a shame. By the way, my father was your husband's 2nd. cousin and I do have info. about the Scott Family. I am at [email protected] if you want to contact me.

The document will be in the county in which she actually died.
