    1. Burial information
    2. JoAnn Loghry
    3. Mary,I have not checked there as I have checked with Grant co. gen assn. they have no burial listed for her, & since she died in 1866, her will is on file there somewhere, I have a copy.I assumed since she lived in Boscobel she might have been buried there. I have checked some of the listings around there in Crawford & Iowa counties & Richland. there is a lot of information on this Powell line there but it's in old papers like the bad Axe & the Boscobel Dial. a land scandal involving her son John that died in Vicksburg in 1863. he also left a will just before he left with the WI. 20th Co. "C" but with all this information there is nothing there about where Susannah the mother came from or who she was married to or if he came with her. she lived near some of the older family's of the time there, Nelson Dewey, Coates etc: I wondered where this Mahala Taylor entered into the family & if you will look at the Wigrant site I have posted several in search of all this info. I did no! t findout who this little girl was until I got her last will & testament. then she mentions that this girl is a grand daughter. her son John refers to her as well as his neice in his will. also the other children I did not know about were mentioned in this will. a dau. Cynthia who is m. to Darius Newberry, a dau. that m. Jesse Asburty Ferrel, I have that license. her brother John stands for her, as does her brother in law John Stewart. I did not know who he was till I got the will of hers. (Susannah)he is m. to Rachel Powell. then she had a son named Andrew J. Powell, he dissapears in the 1860 census. . so while it looks like there is quite a bit of info. on this family no one has been able to find the rest. my friend Helen Mumm seems to think MY Powell's are somehow linked to hers, thru her grandaughter. so there you have it. if I need to call the courthouse I can call Helen for the number. I just wondered when I saw this book was out that .........just maybe....always the! hope you know........Jo Ann........my brick wall? "Ole Susannah Powel l"

    1. Mahala TAYLOR
    2. Mary Thiele Fobian
    3. I'm not sure what you mean about "where did she come from" in reference to Susannah POWELL. The 1850 and 1860 censuses, taken together, seem to indicate she came from South Carolina. Is the following information about Mahala correct and complete? Mahala Taylor daughter of UNK father and UNK mother granddaughter of Susanna MNU Powell 1846-1847 born in WI (per 1850 & 1860 censuses); born in Jay IND. per SOURCE? 1850 US Census WI Grant Dist24 p31 1860 US Census WI Grant Boscobel p15) 1865 listed in grandmother Susannah POWELL's will Has Helen checked in Holford's 1900 History of Grant County to see if there's anything revealing about the POWELLs and TAYLORs? What about church records? Any idea from anyone's death or burial records what church they might have attended? ========================== Mary Thiele Fobian Genealogical & Historical Research Pacific Grove, California

    1. Margaret Klein - b abt 1867 in Germany
    2. Ron Klein
    3. I am trying to learn what became of Margaret Klein, born in Germany [probably Darmstadt] about 1867 and the daughter of Jacob and Christina Klein. Jacob and Christina were my g-g-grandparents. Margaret immigrated via New York on April 16, 1869 on the ship Jenny from Bremen with her parents and siblings George(b 1850), Andrew(b 1856), and Catharina (b about 1862). The oldest sibling, Henry (b 1847) appears to have immigrated before the rest of the family - probably in 1868. Margaret appears in the 1870 census with the family in Fredonia, Ozaukee Co., WI. She appears again with the family in the 1880 census in Marietta, Crawford Co., WI. Margaret again appears in October, 1881 as a witness at the wedding of her brother George to Caroline Jungbluth (daughter of Adam & Christine Becker) in the Boscobel, Grant Co., Wisconsin area. George and Caroline were my g-grandparents. I have been unable to find any reference to Margaret in either marriage or death records after 1881. I would appreciate any information others may have, or suggestions or assistance tracking her down. By 1895 Jacob and Christina were in Milwaukee when Christina died 1 March 1895. Jacob died 10 July 1901 in Wauwatosa. They are buried in Union Cemetery in Milwaukee. You can email me directly if you want. Thanks for any help. Ron Klein

I am still searching for my "Ole Susannah Powell" but I am also in search of her grand daughter who I thought had married a man by the surname Cave. I was told the iformation I had found was for a Mahala Taylor, that even if the info I had that sent me on my way to her was all wrong. I might be. but in 1850 this girl is 3 yrs old with her grandmother Susannah Powell in Boscobel. she is 13 in 1860 & still with Susannah Powell. Susannah dies in 1866, her will states she is a niece to her son John as in HIS will he leaves whatever is in his to go in part to this girl. in 1870 she is gone. I found a Mahala Taylor in the Apostle Islands BUT I do not recall what it was or what year. my belief was that she had gone to oregon with her husband,David Montague Cave. but I was told I was wrong. might someone be able to look & see IF she might have married th! ere in the hopes her parents are listed? I know no one has any information on "ole Susannah"I have her last will & testament, & some papers on the land scandal her son John had there. some of it is listed in the paper "the Bad axe" & the Boscobel Dial. if anyone has any information on any of this stuff or if I have confused anyone in the manner I have all this written I will be happy to go over it again.......thank you all for bearing with me for all these years...........Jo Ann Loghry in AR.............

Mary Malvina was first married to Bembridge Underwood, the son of Margaret "Peggy" Underwood and Willis Underwood --who were first cousins. Willis Underwood was son of James Underwood and Sarah Thompson. Margaret Underwood was dtr of Reuben Underwood and Sarah "Sally" McCarty. Reuben and James Underwood were children of George and Mildred Rucker Underwood and they also had a 3td son Berriman/Berryman Underwood. Dawson Winn was first married to Matilda Underwood. When Matilda died and then her brother Bembridge Underwood died two years later; Dawson and widow Mary Malvina nee Turner Underwood were married in 1874 in St. Clair Co MO. I have census records, other documents, pictures, and two places on internet where good solid info is listed --one is in WPC submission of a distant cousin of mine; the other is from a descendant of Dawson and his first wife Matilda Underwood. Both these people are good researchers and very thorough also. Much can be seen in both of these sites. If possible please contact me at [email protected] and I would really like to know what else you have on Underwoods and possibly my Winn line. Dawson Winn did live in Grant Co (Wyalusing) for a time with his family-was there in 1862 and may have also lived in MN. I have been trying to find out if he and Matilda had children born to them who by chance that did not live to maturity or get to MO for some reason when Dawson went to St. Clair Co, MO. If they are researching their line, they would recognize their ancestor's name and the names of Robert and Wilhelmine--and know that someone else in the galaxy is researching their line. So far, I believe I'm the only one doing genealogy research on the Grant County Schenks. << I find Michael, but don't readily find Robert Schenk in censuses in Wisconsin.>> Yes, Michael stayed in WI while Robert and Wilhelmine moved on to Illinois sometime 1866 and 1869. << I do find this birth index entry which may or may not be for Laura/Lena: Lina Schunk 17 Jan 1857 Milwaukee 0141 000947>> According to 1870 KS census records, Laura/Lena was born in 1859. She was probably born in Grant county, since her parents were married 6 Dec 1856, and land was bought '55 and '58.

    3. Dear listers I am new to this particular list and I would like to outline my interest. I have a Thomas Trollop/e who married an Elizabeth Dewing in England (Norfolk I believe) and immigrated to Wisconsin in the early 1840's. The family details I have are a little wishy washy and of variable sources. Anyway I understand there was one child born in England - a 'Loiger' according to the US census, followed by these in Wisconsin: Ellen 1847, Cornelius 1851, Eliza 1851, Joel 1857, Cornelia 1857, Moses 1859, William 1861 & again in 1863, Charlotte 1867, Albert 1868 & Fannie 1872. I found a record from an individual (unverified) showing wife Elizabeth Dewing born 18 May 1825 Norfolk, England and died 1 Feb 1894 Little Grant, WI and buried in the Underwood Cemetery, Grant WI. I think this Thomas Trollop is a relation of mine and need to establish where he was born and his parents' names. I can't find a marriage record for them in England from all the resources I can find, nor can I find much about them in the US except for the 1880 census which shows some of the family together then. I see there are some Trollop names listed in WI telephone listings so decendants they may be. If anyone can assist or shed some light it would be gratefully appreciated. 2. I'm trying to find the maiden name of Wilhelmine, wife of Robert Schenk, formerly of Grant County, Wisconsin. She was born ABOUT 1841, died BET 1885 - 1900. Her name on their marriage license is Prawn, but that doesn't match with other items. It's probably another case of the county clerk not understanding the Prussian accent they had. Robert and Wilhelmine had 8 children: Laura (Lena), Robert, Louis, Rose, Josephine, Henry, Joseph, Edward. Also, I'm wondering if there are any descendants of Robert and Wilhelmine out there. Robert's father is Michael of Grant Co. His second wife is Catherine. Regards, Diane Wolford

    3. As I understand your post, you are hoping to find Wilhelmine in Grant County prior to her marriage in order to identify her maiden name. Your post doesn't specify when or where Robert and Wilhelmine were married and where their children were born. I find Michael, but don't readily find Robert Schenk in censuses in Wisconsin. I do find this birth index entry which may or may not be for Laura/Lena: Lina Schunk 17 Jan 1857 Milwaukee 0141 000947 [email protected] wrote: I'm trying to find the maiden name of Wilhelmine, wife of Robert Schenk, formerly of Grant County, Wisconsin. 1. Re: Elizabeth GADNER/GODUER (Gardner?) marriage to David McCORD: 1856
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: McCord Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/lEC.2ACE/1031.1.1 Message Board Post: HI, I have been to the court house and the marriage record book shows Gadner. When I asked to see the original record they looked and said that there was none. The wife's maiden name is in question. Her descendant thinks it should be Fairbanks. Only one of the various records at the court house show the father's name as Fairbanks. The rest are left blank or "unknown" written in. It seems strange that with the person right there supplying info for a marriage record, etc. there are no parents' names given.
