Robson, born 1878, was the daughter of Thomas Temple and Elizabeth Bainbridge Robson. Thomas Temple Robson, born 1843 Middleton in Teesdale, Durham England, was the son of William and Hannah Temple Robson. This Robson branch also resided in the Lafayette and Grant county areas of Wisconsin beginning in the late 1840's, with the males of the line being mainly miners. I have a Thomas Robson, born September 7, 1822, spouse of Mary Ann Bewick, listed as the son of James (born about 1797) and Elizabeth unknown, born 1797. Elizabeth, Thomas, and additional children named Rueben (sp. Rosa), James (Mary Ann Hird/Hurd) Ann (John Dawson), and William were residing in Benton, Lafayette county, WI in 1850, but no James Sr. I have been trying to connect William and Hannah Temple Robson to the Robson branch above, (later connected to the Metcalf line through Thomas' son William), but no luck so far. Will be happy to share; I am researching for friends new to genealogy who would be delighted to find any family connections. Diane

Mr. Chapman is a veteran butcher of Grant Co., he having followed the business steadily from 1841 to 1874. John Watkinson was his first partner. In 1853, he formed a partnership with J. F. Mr. Chapman is the owner of several farms---one of 340, and one of 140 acres in Platteville, 80 in Smelser, 160 in La Fayette Co., 160 in Iowa Co., 240 in Kossuth and Wright Counties, Iowa, and a farm of 140 acres, part in Platteville and part in Harrison. 1. RE: [WIGRANT] Death Records Added to Wisconsin Vital Records Index
    2. Melissa McLimans
    3. Hi Eileen, Unfortunately, there is no rule of thumb that I am aware of. I did some checking in the index, searched by date and name variations and came up empty handed. I know that it was in the 1880s when the state starting to really stress the need to register births, but even then, countless births went unregistered. Sometimes, the youngest child was registered and then the other children were registered at that same time. I have seen many children registered on the same day, although they were born years apart. In this case, it just might be that your great grandparents simply did not register the older children, but then made a decision (perhaps the church became more compliant or there was some sort of local campaign to get births registered?) to register their youngest. It is so interesting to try and comprehend why some things are registered and some are not, but it can be frustrating as well! Good luck in your family research and let me know if I can help futher. Melissa >>> "Eileen and George" <[email protected]> 04/04/06 7:01 PM >>> Melissa, I have a general question about the birth records. My grandmother Rose Ehrenreich was born 07 Oct 1901 in Rib Lake. Her brother, Ignatius was born20 Jun 1900 and another brother, Anthony in 09 May 1903. Yet, their sister, Mary born Sep 10 1907 is listed. Is there a rule o thumb here? Or, is this a situation where the children were baptized, but not registered with the state? Your insight is appreciated. 1. Availability of Grant Co., WI Pre-1907 Vital Records
    2. David W. Taft
    3. Eileen, In 1907 the State of Wisconsin began officially recording vital records. Prior to that, I would say marriage records were recorded in the County and State at...oh...about 95% accuracy. As for births and deaths, I can only speculate, but doubt they cover 15-20% of the total. Probably less. I've transcribed some pre-1907 births for Grant Co. and all recorded pre-1907 births and deaths for Crawford Co., WI. In both cases, the numbers were quite low. I have no idea what prompted a record with the County/State. Just one of those things that frustrate researchers. Personally, I think it was probably into the 1920's before "99%" of these were officially recorded. My line is a Marie Elizabeth Riedel who was born about 1802 and she married a George Garbisch & they immigrated from Prussia (Klein Ujeschutz Silesia) about 1840 - they came with Lutherans anyway, this couple & their children lived in the Mequon area of WI and lived out their final days with daughter Johanna Garbisch who married a Wilhelm WEGNER (William Wagner) - in the 1870s and 1880s, you can find George in the home of Wilhelm - so because of the Riedel Ties already, and because some of the Garbisch line ended up moving to Clark CO WI, Grant and Granton areas, when I see RIEDEL names up there, I have to wonder, are they not related to my Marie E? It is always worth asking - and finally DO YOU HAVE PHOTOS - I have a book called the Garbisch garden with much info but no photos of George & Marie Garbisch or Johanna their dau who married Wilhelm Wegner (if I remember right - lots of photos in there, but the further back we go, there are just not much in the way of pictures/portraits) So anyone with info on the Riedels, please write Or if you happen to have photos on any of the above mentioned people & their line would love to hear from you as photos are the absolute best thanks for listening SUE

I don't have a birth date for Ernest that is even an approximate one. A living aunt says that Ernest and Ina's brother, Lewis, were close friends. Lewis was born in 1871. Ernest and Ina had one child born 8 Sep 1886. We believe Ina died late 1897 early 1898. Can't find record of death or burial but believe she may be one of the unmarked headstones in Coleman-Whittaker Cemetery. Sometime in early 1890's, they either divorced or he just left. Can't find record of divorce. Lewis was in contact with Ernest but would never reveal where he was. Even on Lewis' dying bed, he would not reveal anything about Ernest to my grandmother (Ernest and Ina's daughter). Some believe he may have gone to Canada. Mary was in the Grant County Asylum for better than 40 years. I would like more into on her incarceration. I understand she had a baby while she was living there, a pregnancy from the administrator at the Asylum. I understand he was fired after this incident, we don't know who the baby was given to and I would like a way to tract down the administrators of the County Home. I am not sure of the spelling of the Richtor name. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you very much in advance. Linda

    3. I forgot to add the following on Hiram and Eliakum's father Henry which may help you in your search. I received this info from a research tracing Henry Steven's brother Jonas By 1820 Henry had moved from Vermont to upstate New York near the Canadian Border, where he was a lumberman near the French Mills. Before 1833 Henry moved to Bloomville, Seneca County, Ohio After 1843 and before 1847 Henry moved to McHenry County, Illinois 1850 Federal census Chemung, McHenry County, Illinois ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> To: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> Sent: Monday, April 03, 2006 4:38 PM Subject: [WIGRANT] Re: researching Hiram & Adelphia Stevens This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. A brick wall for many years and also trying to find him 'before' marriage is brick wall even after learning his parents names through the marriage certificate. Some info below: Sincerely, Mike -----------------------------\ (Ina Brown) In the 1880 Census she is living with her parents in Haney, Crawford County, Wisconsin. Ina's marriage is registered as No. 174, 00223 with this information: Groom: Ernest D. Stevens. Father: Hiram Stevens. Mother: Adelpha Stevens. Occupation: Farmer City: Haney. Birth Place: Wisconsin. Bride: Ina J. Brown. Father: Marvin L. Brown. Mother: Margrate [sic] A. Brown. Birth Place: It was Blank. Marriage Contract: 14 April 1884. Where Contracted: Boscobel, Grant County, Wisconsin. Race: White. Type Ceremony: Statute Form Mutual Agreement. Witnesss: W. M. Jones; Marvin L. Brown (W. M. could be a connection to Ina's grandmother). Pronouncing: L. J. Wooley. (Probably Lucius J. Wooley, a lawyer in Boscobel). Residence of Bride: Boscobel. Date of Certificate Or Affidavit: 14 April 1884. Date Registered: 20 May 1884. In a Civil War Pensions Claim affidavit dated 13 Jan 1898, Marvin L. Brown in a listing of his living children does not include Ina Janet. ==== WIGRANT Mailing List ==== If you have any questions or concerns, please e-mail me Mari, WIGRANT List Admin at [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> *--*--*--*--*--*--*Happy Hunting!!*--*--*--*--*--*--* ============================== Census images 1901, 1891, 1881 and 1871, plus so much more.
