I'm trying to locate my ancestors. Robert H Schenk, son of Michael, (Schenck sometimes) married Wilhelmine 6 Dec 1856. On county marriage license, she is listed as Wilcena Prawn, daughter of George and Christiana Prawn. However, I cannot find a George or a Prawn that fits the spelling or variation of spelling in the 1860 Grant County census. Other county 1860 census on Ancestry.com did not yield results. If the county clerk misunderstood Wilhelmina for Wilcena, what was the original name that would have been guessed as Prawn? Could it be Braun? I'm hoping that George and Christiana stayed in Grant County, but they may have moved shortly after the marriage of their daughter. Robert and Wilhelmina stayed in/near Ellenboro for a few more years until they moved to Illinois (sometime before 1869). I've looked in so many places for siblings or variations of spelling of Prawn (census records state Wilhelmina was Prussian/German), but no luck. Thanks. Diane

    3. List, Another historical reality TV show is coming to PBS. This one is called Texas Ranch House. 1867 Texas! It originally airs May 1-4, 2006. PBS's previous shows (1900 House, Colonial House, Frontier House and others) have been excellent. Below is the PBS website for Texas Ranch House where you can find when it will show where you live: http://www.pbs.org/wnet/ranchhouse/ Although I was born in Arizona, this should be interesting, especially for those with Texas roots or anyone who had families out west in the mid to late 1800's. The index is broken in to two separate lists. Each list identifies the father and mother of the bride or the groom for each recorded marriage in the records. The information was taken off the information recorded in the marriage records. Obviously if no parents were listed in the actual marriage record the parents will not be listed in the Index to Parents. The first list is arranged alphabetically by the mother's last name, the second list is arranged by the father's last name. It is a very helpful tool.

    1. Willis Underwood family 1955 Grant Co, WI census
    2. Looking for info on Willis Underwood family in Grant County WI census of 1855. Ancestry.com states he is in the census index on page 001. Is it possible to get to that index so that I can see it on the internet? Willis was born about 1796 possibly VA, and d. Feb 1872 in MO. He married on 29 Nov 1823 to Margaret "Peggy" Underwood who was a first cousin of his. Parents of Willis were James and Sarah Thmpson Underwood, and parents of Margaraet were Reuben and Sarah McCarty Underwood. James and Reuben were brothers, children of George and Mildred Rucker Underwood of VA I have 14 children for Willis and Margaret but not sure how many were surviving in 1855. Virginia WINN Parker
