Happy and Safe Holiday to all, This is the time of year that I gather information for winter posting to the county site, but with the wonderful volunteer help it has also been a very busy month for posting. We have a good number of 1880 census pages transcribed by volunteers Kirk & Cheryl Morschauser and Sue Lattin, all old friends of the site. These are now at the proof-reader for final preparation and will be posted early in July. You will find the newest postings at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wioconto/newest.htm These include: *111 new and old county obituaries * New surname postings along with direct e-mail links to the contributing family researchers * Town of How Scrap Book was completely posted - including abbreviated 1880 and 1900 US Census remuneration's for that township *1876, 1877 and part of 1878 newspaper reports on county marriages, deaths, and family events *The Births Page has been started (very exciting!) with the names and dates of old county births up to 1907 from the newspaper; from the Wisconsin Births Pre-1907 Index for Oconto County (an ongoing project as the microfiche is transcribed); and the completed list of births that were not recorded at the time of the event, but for numerous reasons applications were sent to the county for certification years later (mostly for Social Security benefits and life insurance policy claims in the 1930's and 1940's). Here are the entries he finished and published in the Oconto County Reporter on the 100th anniversary year of our nation. *The "Official Oconto County Centennial Souvenir Program of 1948" is being posted! In celebration of 100 years of Wisconsin statehood, it contains essays and photographs on a wide range of Oconto County history, as well as people and numerous advertisements for the family owned county businesses of that time.The first part has been posted and the rest will come soon.
