    3. Hi all, The Iowa County Genealogical Society (http://www.wiiowagensoc.org/) had, for many years, been a member of FGS. We found their organization to be an invaluable tool for us while organizing the society and moving it forward at the same time. They hold national conferences each year just as NGS does. The basic difference between the two societies is that FGS is more of a Genealogical Society for Societies while NGS is the national society for individuals. That's not to say that an individual could not join FGS, they certainly could just as a society could join NGS. It's just the matter of that society's focus on their materials. Their conferences are geared for the individual, but they also have had a separate track just for society management where your society's delegate or officers can attend. The only reason that ICGS dropped the membership was that we were focusing spending as much of our funding on projects vs memberships. If that focus changes and we were to open the society wallet up to other things again, FGS would be first on my list of items to spend money on. To find out more about them, check out their website: http://fgs.org/ My opinion is that joining FGS is a good thing for everyone is the USGenWeb. It will help grow the project and help the leaders with specific concerns or questions that they may have and ultimately those answers can only help the coordinators. (The Josh of the note I forwarded). I know it to be a very fine organization that promotes genealogical organizations. I wrote my representatives tonight to urge them to accept this generous offer. Josh could you tell us all more about the FGS.
