This is kind of funny because I just got a very rude and immature email from somebody saying basically how dare I have those graphics on my page because genealogists have better things to do than wait for those (might I add TINYusgenweb and wigenweb) graphics to load, and they are not interested in seeing them, and my less than 30kb of graphics I have on my page caused the poor guy to have to wait 15 minutes for the page to load. HA HA. Oh ya, and I have "cutsy" little boxes around my data (I.E. a table) that is just as equally useless to him. I've been heavily repressing my urge to email them an equally polite letter back letting him know that he really let his ignorance show. Maybe I'll just add some background music. That lake applet might work too. : ) I love the lake applet. Does the person who created that blue Wisconsin banner thing know what font that is in? In the bylaws it states: "A website may list research materials and/or services which may be for sale/hire, either by the coordinator, a genealogy society, or others. Such a listing shall not be on the main web page for the site, but may be linked from the main web page. It may be appropriate to include a disclaimer that the coordinator and The USGenWeb Project do not guarantee the contents of such research materials and/or the expertise of any professional researchers." I'm just wondering though how much is too much links to things that the people would have to pay for? Should there be a set number of things that could be for fee, or maybe a percentage of your page. I'm torn on this matter because I have the historical society giving me indexes to things people can purchase, but the USGenweb moto is practically "free genealogy on the internet". I don't like being a classified ad for the county library and historical society, but I know the people who come to my pages who've purchased things are happy I have it. (though there are also probably people who hate it) Where does the balance come in? Now the historical society wants to know if I'll put the name of a person who will do research for a fee on my pages. I don't think it's right to to advertise all this 'for fee' stuff when the USGenweb advertises 'free genealogy', but if even some of the researchers are willing to utilize it, do I not put it up just because of my own personal feelings? Perhaps this is something the SC can clarify more for me.. or us. Melissa
