Hi All, I was asked this year to judge the books for the WHS Book of the year... 17 books. All were great and it has been fun. There is one book I want to point folks to. I don't know which book is the winner, as there are 6 separate areas of evaluation for each book and 3 of us doing this. However there is a book that I found just fascinating Women's Wisconsin - From Native Matriarchies to the New Millennium http://shop.wisconsinhistory.org/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=14&idpr oduct=359 It is 'First Person History' with a stunning level of documentation to go with it... I have been trying to reach Lori with no success, if any of you have a current email address for her, could you email me. Thanks! Tina
Hi Folks, Just wanted to let you all know that Nance got a hold of me and told me what she did with hers then I went and experimented with Digital Suite and got things to work... and figured out the ins and outs of linking in the photo album a little more complex but not to much... thank gosh for the View Source Code option on right click web pages... I was able to compare and figure out everyone of my mistakes... took 4 tires but I got it... Thanks Timmers

I couldn't be more thrilled that Timm has taken over the site. Thanks Nance, Now I do have one question, Nance as you know I scan high quality pictures and have a ton of them from 1870-to 1930s for the county as I have done the LCO collection and a good part of the Sawyer County Historical Society's collection. When I use them I get permission of course, but that is no problem as I have given them 10 for every one I use. The Wolf Point collection is a private family one, who asked me to put things on line... See I am the first one to get lost (Ondamitagos Lives) Now for my problem, it is with the size of the files, last night I was going to start uploading pictures. I decided to start with one and I could not get the picture to upload, I assume it was too big... I was using a JPeG format. I believe someone should talk me step through step on putting in a picture into the photoalbum... I know it is not tough, but I have a feeling I might need to run the picture through another program to get it small enough. (I have Microsoft's Digital Suite 10 & Picture Project) - between them I should be able to do most anything with the picture. And if there are any other things folks can warn me about the photo area let me know. Thanks Timmers
Hi Timm, I'm not familiar with the program that you are using, but I can tell you that I usually do downsize the photos that I put online. I took my recommendations from Ebay, who states that the longest side of a photo (whether in landscape or portrait view) should be no larger than 300 pixels. If the photo has alot of detail, for example, a classroom photo from school, etc., I will fudge on that and make it as large as 600 pixels on the longest edge. But no matter if it is bigger than the 300 pixels or not, I will run the photo, after downsizing it, through the jpg optimizer of Paint Shop Pro X and compress the photo about 20 or 25 percent. This cuts down on the file size dramatically without making the photo too fuzzy. It just makes for easier uploading for you, and quicker viewing for your visitors. Be sure to upload your photos as binary! Hope this helps a little bit, N. Hey Timm, See what I told ya? These are the greatest people to work with. Everyone is so helpful! As far as you taking over the Sawyer Co. website, what can I say but thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! (I've already said it a million times, so why not add a few more, huh?) You are the one and only person I could think of that would do justice to this website. Folks, I recommend that you keep an eye on this guy and what he has planned. He has access to great resources and is in touch with people who really know about the Sawyer Co. area! He will be making the Sawyer Co. WIGenWeb into the great site that it deserves to be. I couldn't be more thrilled that Timm has taken over the site. Thank you all for making him feel welcome here. Nance
I will chime right in with Joan on this one. I have encountered enough people who can't even properly spell Sheboygan, I won't even begin to go into pronouncing it right. To me it should be pronounceable with ease, but I found out a long time ago, that isn't the case. So I figure if I have problems with people and Sheboygan, you should have a hayday with Lac Courte Oreilles. LOL!!! Welcome to the best group of people any history or genealogy site could have, me included of course. <VBG> Debie Blindauer Calumet & Sheboygan Counties
Timm Welcome!! You have a tough act to follow, but I've read your webpage and it looks like you'll be able to handle it. Timm, take a moment to introduce yourself to the group. Nance, due to time constraints, is turning the reins over to Timm for Sawyer, and has asked me to place Burnett up for adoption [which I will do on Sunday]. Nance, I want to thank you very much for your care and dedication to both Sawyer and Burnett counties, and am so very pleased you will continue with us! 'Moo'varleous for all of us!
