Some how I missed out on the new logo part. Where is it? Can I view it now so that I will know what basic color, (or possibly remove all color), I need to add to my pages. That way I can begin removing all my muted backgrounds. The objective here is plain Jane - am I correct. Removing all personality from the site so that we are all alike. Thanks. Jan
Hi everyone, I want to thank Paula and Nance for tallying your votes on the motions presented. They did a wonderful job! I, also, want to thank all of you for participating in this process. The new logo was submitted by Debbie Barrett, our Pierce County host. Over the next few days, Tim, Kelly and I will be updating the State's pages to reflect the results of the vote, and I will be asking all of you for input. We need to work together on how to best implement these changes across the main county pages. Kelly has been in contact with Debbie and they are working together to present a "color series" of the logo, to present to all of you. It is our desire to provide a version, of the logo, to each of you that will compliment your main county page. Please contact Debbie, <MrsGrinn@aol.com> or Kelly, <kellyj@snowcrest.net> if you have any special requirements for your main county page. Other questions will come up, and I will present them to you as we launch "WIGenWeb Project - Bringing Genealogy into the 21st Century." Tina

As for changing your background to make your pages "plain Jane" or "just like everybody elses" -- absolutely not! From the way I interpret all of this, Debbie and Kelly are planning on making logos of colors that will compliment the backgrounds that we already have. I have no plans of changing any of my backgrounds or page designs. The only thing that will be similar on our pages is the logos -- and those will be in varying colors. We are not going to be "clones" of any other pages -- only by our choice! -- Nance mailto:nsampson@spacestar.net
I have accidently killed the logo Debbie actually submitted for the vote --copied over it. We'll get that one up in a bit here, so there will be two logos to start with. There is the one Debbie graciously matched for the WIGenWeb page at http://www.rootsweb.com/~wigenweb/graphics.html Kelly > Jan, > > The logos that we voted on (part of Motion # 00002) are located at: > http://www.rootsweb.com/~wigenweb/logo-sub.html > > And the logo that won is #2 on that page. > > As for changing your background to make your pages "plain Jane" > or "just like > everybody elses" -- absolutely not! At the moment, there is one logo and it is at http://www.rootsweb.com/~wigenweb/graphics.html. Debbie is working on different sizes, and colors so they should match fairly closely to whatever it was you were previously using. If this particular color and size is unsuitable, I would hold off updating your page until the alternate colors/sizes are available. I just sent in a township for posting on the census project, but now I find out that there are two. Who is what? Can anyone tell me how to take the work off Excel and transfer it to a HTML page so I can just post my work right to the site? Copy and Paste doesn't work with <pre></pre>.. Rita - Oconto
I have been just reading some mail on the controversy taking place about census records. I have just volunteered to do 1880 and 1870 census records for my Marathon county. I already have the CD's and am anxious to get going. I have asked for the template, but have not heard from Wayne about them. I understand he is busy, but I am wondering if he is as confused as I am about the problem. I did not even know there were 2 census projects. Is this right? And one of them has de-linked the other's pages? I may rescind my offer, and just do them for my county page. I really don't care for this kind of bickering. It seems to be easier to just place my information on my county pages, and the heck with everyone else. At least I will not unlink my pages! I have also sent for the 1875 state cencus for Marathon and Lincoln counties. I will do those for myself for sure! >From my end, I am continuing to coordinate and upload census transcriptions to the Archives Census Project for Wisconsin, as the State Census Coordinator. I offered to take over the coordination for WI for the CP --for continuity, and was turned down. There isn't a whole lot I can do beyond that except continue to upload to the Archives, and keep the tables of contents in order. I am continuing to sign up volunteers. All of the transcriptions, regardless of project end up pretty much in the same place anyway. Kelly Wisconsin Census: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/census/states/wisconsi/wisconsi.htm
Hi Rita, I am a Mac user and agree with what Marsha said earlier. I would add one more piece of advice. Whenever I send an attachment to a PC user (whether an image or not) I send it "uncompressed" and "UUencoded" (as opposed to BinHex, Base64, Apple Single and Apple Double). These are options my email program (Claris Emailer) gives me. If she has the option, UUencoding is the way to go. Incidentally, if she sends a jpeg image, compression wouldn't shrink the file significantly anyway since it is already "shrunk". Dawn M. Knauft, CGRS Coordinator, Dane Co. Hi, I am getting scanned photos from a great lady for the Oconto County site, but I have an IBM compatable computer, and she has a Mac. I can't open the attachment - I use Netscape, can't save it to disc or hard drive. I use Soap (program) for photographs and it will take Mac and .sit, but how do I get it to the Soap? Her last attempt said: Rita: I scanned it in photoshop and saved it as a tiff in IBM PC format, forgot I could do the IBM thing with my mac, latest thing, that was why I got it! If it is a .sit when you get it, I am using Drop Stuff and Stuffit Expander should expand it for you. Hope this works! Rita, Ask her to save (& transmit) the photos as .gif or .jpg (JPEG to a Mac). These are the only formats that *actually* will work between platforms. Photoshop has the ability to create these formats. Tell her *not* to compress them with Stuffit or any other compression programs. They aren't (reliably) compatible between platforms. I know -- my Dad & 1 brother have a Macs. We tried everything. I have a great graphics program (PaintShop Pro) with one of the best conversion programs going, and it can't deal (reliably) with anything other than these formats, from a Mac. The key word here is "reliably." Yes, there are programs that claim to allow PCs to un-Stuffit (and Macs to un-Zip) -- but they don't seem to work well on every PC, operating system, video card, graphics accelerator, resolution, etc. Yes, TIFF-in-IBM format *should* work on an IBM-compatible, but often doesn't, depending on (see previous list). Best to keep it simple. Stick to .txt files, .gif & .jpg graphics, & everything uncompressed. Thanks to all for their help with my question on how to handle requests for people who are not related to the questioner. Sometimes in our role as people-who help-people we take on more than we should. You helped me to remember the purpose of our websites. It was as simple as that. Bob

I too, handle all my queries manually. I frequently get people who send the same query every few months. Do you get that too? I don't know why these people don't check the query index that I meticulously prepare. I go ahead and post the indentical queries, as it's as much trouble to get into a conversation with them about how dumb they are (I don't mean that) as it is to copy and paste the query. But I do link all same name queries together, so hopefully these guys will someday follow the links and see how they look LOL Robin Hoff Kaspar Volunteer host, Grant County, Wisconsin WIGenweb http://www.rootsweb.com/~wigrant

Robert, I get the same thing once in a while. These I feel are not right for the county board that I oversee. I have a form letter ready to go. It just very nicely explains that the site is dedicated to ancestor research and is not set up to handle his/her request for present day information. Then I offer them the following sites to try. Netscape telephone search: http://form.netscape.com/peoplesearch/phone_srch.html DocuSearch ( which is interesting but a little scary): http://www.docusearch.com/ I wish them luck with their search.
