The correct spelling is Brodhead. It is in Southern Wisconsin, in Green County (near the border of Rock County). ----- Original Message ----- From: <WIGenWebProject@aol.com> To: <WIGEN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, September 05, 2000 4:31 PM Subject: [WIGEN-L] Fwd: cemetery project > Hi everyone, > > I received this question below. The issue is being investigated, and steps taken to assist all of us in presenting our pages. The chat Wednesday evening, and follow-up discussion on the list will be helpful, and I encourage you all to attend. There has been some discussion lately on the SC list and other lists of a site that charges for access and appears to be mostly links to other people's online data. It does this by using frames and frequently it appears as if the off-site data is actually part of the site. Several USGenWeb data pages have been located on this site. There are some things we can do with our pages to make it clear where a visitor is and to help them break out of the frame. Wednesday evening, at our regularly scheduled chat, I have invited Joy Fisher, SDGenWeb, SC and Holly Timm, NYGenWeb, SC to discuss page identification/linking problems. I have also extended the invitation to NYGenWeb CC's as well. For those of you who can't attend Wednesday evening, I will post a synopsis of the chat to this list Thursday. Hi Nance, Thank you for letting me know this. I only knew of St. Croix and Sheboygan from doing research in Madison. The State library there has a notice saying that Sheboygan and St. Croix was switched. That was back about 8 years ago, so perhaps they found out more by now and I am just behind. I will post a message to my county to let the researchers know, then I will need to dig back through my outbox and find the person I sent to St. Croix county, perhaps I continued to mess this up by doing that. Have a great weekend, Debie >Hi Debie, > >I appreciate your trying to straighten the birth index situation out. Much more. In all, information on more than 14,000 past residents of the county have been added this month and is available on the the site search engine at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wioconto/ A very special "Thank You" to those among us (police, nurses, pharmacists, dairy farmers, and many more) who will be working this holiday Labor Day weekend so our lives are better and more comfortable. The rest of you....Have FUN!!!! Rita - Oconto County
I have found that as well. The index is supposed to start in 1820 but many listed marriages predate that, and Oconto was not made a county until 1851, yet members of my family were married on that index long before they were born, talk about early arranged marriages!!. I own the microfiche and also crossed checked a number of them. This is not a few mistakes. Out of the the several dozen I checked, only two had the correct year, and Ancestors' site has a lot of ???s in places where I could easily read the numbers and letters. The name spellings are also not very accurate at times when checked with the original fiche as well (which are pretty creative in their own right). It seems to have been thrown together much too hastily and that is not really a help to people. It also causes problems for the county workers and wastes money and time when they are asked to look for the records using the numbers given, and nothing is found. More harm than good to visitors, and does not do Ancestor's any good either.
