Could someone please send me the link to the admin site for the county-l mailing list for rootsweb? (like mine is wikewaun-l@rootsweb.com) I don't mean Genconnect. I've got tons of addresses bouncing and I thought I had the bookmark on my old computer, but I just checked today and I don't. My 2cents--I think the suckers are those that would spend $50 for this. I think an information campaign to as many genealogy lists/sites as possible to educate the most likely targets, genealogy newbies, would be our best course of action. Simply putting a heading on every page that says that is the easiest action, such is the current *solution* on my Albany County NY site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyalbany/toc.html even better is including the url for the exact page as a frame busting link... this is what is on most of the pages on my Southeast kentucky site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~seky/datafile/index.html The coding to create a cut and paste coding for this header is at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~seky/sampleheader.html This uses SSI echoing to automatically include the correct url of the page and will work for Rootsweb sites and any other servers where SSI is permitted [do change the ~seky to whatever your dircetory is, such as ~wipierce]. You can do a similar version without SSI by simply inserting your url for each page as you go. Be sure to include the TARGET="_top" in the links so that if clicked it will come out of a frame if it is caught in one. Holly (MaMaT)
Okay, here is what I found out... http://gene_olson.tripod.com/index.html This individual is spearheading the effort to investigate FamilyDiscovery.com, and has detailed his efforts and information thus far. Another link that was shared with me was http://blacksheep.rootsweb.com/familydiscovery.htm Holly's best advice, (thanks Holly), is "the best thing they can do is simply label their sites clearly and have a way to get out of the frame". Some of you have asked for the code, and I have asked Holly to provide it here. Holly, is a member of this list <VBG>, and is available to answer any and all questions... I hope that all of you will avail yourselves of the resources, and if you have any questions or comments at all, direct them to the list to be addressed. I have heard from the author of my 1910 census pages which are being sold on FamilyDiscovery.com. She has NO knowledge of this piracy. Can anything be done about the site? Shelley FOR THE WIGEN list Shelley, No, I have not had any dealings with them. I had gotten an email on another list that mentioned they were lifting information from USGenWeb sites, but I hadn't realized they were using my information now. Mary Beth Fay

Hi Bob & All, Actually checking this page out, this idiot has linked to Brown County Michigan's site, if you go to his site, click on Brown county, go to the bottom of the page, it takes you to Brown County, Michigan. It's bad enough to be linking to our sites and charge money in the pre-text that it is your own, it is a whole nuther matter to screw researchers up by giving them the wrong info in general. This guy is a total duh!
