    1. [WIGEN-L] Oconto County Sept. Update
    2. zorblitz
    3. Hello, It has been another really good month for Oconto County WIGenWeb postings, especially information sent in by family researchers. The complete listing of additions for the month, with specific descriptions and individual page links is at : http://www.rootsweb.com/~wioconto/newest.htm Every new word is available on the site search engine on the Home Page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wioconto/ Enjoy! My best to you, Rita - Project Coordinator * Memoirs Page - 6 new additions written in the last two centuries by people who lived in the Oconto County of the past. They range from serious to humorous, and all contain helpful and very interesting information. These are the memories of 'every-day people'. * More birth, death, marriage announcements and family news from the late 1800's county newspapers. * Many obituaries have been added, especially from individual family researchers who so kindly share them. * The Pre-1907 Wisconsin State Marriage Index for Oconto County has been transcribed from microfiche, proof-read, and posted through letter "J", that is about 3,000 new listings with dates and the numbers/letters they are filed under. * 41 new surname postings with direct e-mail links to the contributing family researcher. * We have a new "Look-up" Volunteer for two George Hall Oconto County History books that are just loaded with family names and information. Welcome to MaryBeth <gmjensen@bayland.net >

    2. zorblitz
    3. The Michigan State Attorney General's Office of high tech crime investigation has been asked to look into the FamilyDiscovery.com site. They make this good suggestion in the meantime: If one of your pages is linked for profit by any site that you do not wish, it is a good (but somewhat temporary) idea to replace the information on that page address with a message like " This page has been illegally linked to by a 'for profit' search engine site without permission of the owner. This is a (name of county) WIGenWeb Site Page (then give the home page addie link) and the info. is free at the following address (then give the new page address link)." The person I talked to at the office said that the use of the word "illegal" is powerful (suggests putting it in red caps) and indicates that the profit search engine owner may not be playing straight with them, either. And it helps spred the word about the misuse of the information right on his own site. Just thought I would pass this along for what it is worth. Rita - Oconto CC
