First I want to thank EVERYONE for their feedback on AOL and FTP'ng....and what I ended up doing, was loading the WPS_FTP LE and it works like a charm..better than AOL ever did--did I say that??? And I want to thank all of you for motivating me with your nifty websites! Here is the newest addition to the Fond du Lac website. I have revamped a page on the Fond du Lac site, as a "scrapbook" page, to contain all the stories and data that can't easily be placed elsewhere. This includes letters and diaries, which are great reading, and wonderful discoveries. The bottom entry of this page, is the travel diary of H. .Shepherd, who was on a wagon train that went from Fond du Lac to California in 1852. The following was printed in the Oconto County Reporter January 21, 1882 A duel was lately fought in Texas between Alexandre Shott and John Nott. It was rumored that Nott was shot, and Shott was not. (if so, it was better to be Shott than Nott). But it was afterwards proved that the shot Shott shot at Nott shot Shott by accident, and the shot Nott shot at Shott shot past, and so shot him not. And that's why I never got AOL. For those of you with COX cable, their cox@home.com service is wonderful, it is a dedicated line, so it doesn't use a phone line or cost more money for an extra phone line... And it is faster than faster. NO SLOW downloads and if you are accessing these on-line databases, it is a cinch. In the 2 years I've had it, it went down once, do to a countywide electrical outage, and when I called the toll free number, the guy walked with through the steps and it was back up within two hours of the original outage, needless to say everyone else was harddown, since they were on the phone system. Nope, I don't get a kickback, but thought I would share, since surfing the genealogical internet is now faster than ever. Yes, I have not been able to upload for 10 days now. I wrote to aol, and they acknowledge that they are having problems. I quote from the latest e-mail" Currently , we are still making some modifications to the system. That is why you presently cannot access the FTP feature. The AOL workforce is sopecifically targeting this area, keeping it updated to bring out its utmost potential. This is only a tempory situation. The estimated time in which the issues will be resolved is unknown at this time."
