    1. [WIGEN-L] Online Birth Records
    2. Jansdigs
    3. hmmmmm - glad to see that I am not the only one concerned about this. I questioned it when I heard that the records were being typed up and put online. And said at the time I would not be happy if I found mine online. Thankfully I was born in Michigan. I agree that they should not be on USGW and on my sites - I try to tell people I don't want births or marriages of living persons. Leads me back to the State of Michigan, where I live. A lot of people are upset that Michigan will not release any birth record until they are over 110 years old - other than to that person, or direct proven lineage. This seems to be kind of harsh when looking at it from the genealogy perspective - but - when looking at Texas - I must say there was wisdom in those Michigan Officials. Shari Are you all aware that the state of Wisconsin has their Circuit Court records online? Which means that if you get a traffic ticket (and all other offenses) in Wis, you'll find it posted on the internet within a week or two. This is a FREE database so available to anyone. Your birthdate, address etc will be posted there. Linda

    3. Deaths to date are okay, births to about 1907 are okay, marriages to about 1920 are okay, chances are, you'll find very few living in these births and marriages. Recent obits, or ones that have people mentioned who may be living, I put online, but instead of names and addresses, etc of any living, I change it to: survived by 2 sons, 3 daughters, 5 grandchildren, etc. (this is an example) whatever number of survivors mentioned in the obit. It doesn't give spouse's names or anything like that. But just out of respect for the living, I haven't been putting any recent obits online either. Besides, I'll feel lucky just getting the pre-1907's online for all six of my counties. That should keep me busy and out of trouble for quite a while. :~) Take care and thanks for the thought-provoking conversation! -- Nance mailto:nsampson@spacestar.net

    3. This is an interesting exchange of ideas from the site below regarding the posting of vital records, to Rootsweb and GenWeb, on living individuals. This was new to me. Just thought it might interest some of you as well. Not quite sure how I feel about this, but in this case it is perfectly legal in Texas. I haven't done this as of yet (I'm only on the pre-1907 indexes right now) so I'm interested in hearing everyone's opinions before I get too far into this. -- Nance mailto:nsampson@spacestar.net

Rita - Oconto County > > http://www.redrival.com/cstern/genmenu1.html > Hi Rita, I find this really interesting. I personally have tried very hard not to put any info online that pertains to living people. I am also working very closely with the Washburn Co. Register of Deeds, who is allowing me to put the indexes of the births, marriages and deaths online, directly from her books. I made that above statement to her and she looked puzzled and asked why I would worry about such a thing, since anyone could walk into her office and view that same information -- it is public record and as such, she felt that it would be okay for me to put all of the indices online. So just give me a few years to accomplish this, since I'm starting from the beginning... -- Nance mailto:nsampson@spacestar.net
