Does anyone know a source table that tells what money amounts in the late 1800's and early 1900's would be equivalent to today? Thank, Rita
Those immigration pages are going to be EXCELLENT for our researchers, MAK...You've spent a lot of time on them and way to go!! I'll add the link to my Florence site next update! Anne
I ran across this site today, while looking for something else. It has census figures in a little table by county by census for the years 1900-1990 with increase/decrease figures and percents. http://recenter.tamu.edu/Data/popcd/popcs55.html It has some commercial interest too, but the data is in a nice format. For all of you at ALHN (and you know who you are - grin) who beat me over the head last week that the WI Migration pages were not working, I have a pleasant surprise. They are NOW up and working. HURRAH!!! At least my 43 counties are (grin), and the rest of WI should be done most ricky tick... To submit, click submit on any page and follow the instructions, to check a county for your ancestor's surname click view on that county page, and the submitted names will appear alphabetically. Each place you put your ancestor moved to, they will automatically appear in that county, IF YOU DO IT CORRECTLY. NOW, if your ancestor is not there, do NOT NOT NOT send me an email stating that your ancestor was in that county and why aren't they there. They aren't going to be there unless YOU or someone else submitted them. That is how this site works... Now, having said that, I am sure to get at least three beligerent emails anyways (grin)... Forwarding for your info. If you are looking for German ancestory in mid-central WI, this is a great resource. I have found that many of the families moved within Wood, Portage, Clark, and Marathon Counties, so it is always great to be able to check the resources of neighboring counties. Be sure to let Shelley know what a great job she is doing, and how much you appreciate the time and energy she is expending so we can have FREE data at our fingertips. Thanks Shelley. I have finished transcribing a ship's manifest - the Steamer America, from Brehmen to New York, docking 14 June 1867. This is referred to as the Kickbusch ship, as August Kickbusch went from his home in Marathon County back to Germany and the story goes that he brought back 702 new immigrants to settle in Wisconsin - not all in Marathon County, but quite a few! Because of the difficulty in deciphering the names, I would like to ask if anyone has firm knowledge of an immigrant family and the name is incorrect, to let me know. I certainly would like all of you to read the foreword of the table, and give credit to Darlene Winter and to Amy Ryan-Conway for their help. <Go to the Marathon County Home page, http://www.rootsweb.com/~wimarath/ <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~wimarath/"> <Marathon County Wisconsin Genealogy Wigenweb</A> Click on Name Indexes, then on the Kickbusch Manifest. Here's a brief overview of what's new at the Marinette County WIGenWeb site http://www.rootsweb.com/~wimarine * Seven (7) generations of the Brault family (first European settlers in the Coleman area). * Link to historical information on Marinette County railroads. * Link to neighboring Dickinson County, MI (In addition to the obvious link to Menominee, Michigan right across the river, lots of people with roots in Marinette find they also have folks in Kingsford, Iron Mountain, Quinessec and/or Norway.) * By request (thanks, Barb!) -- Current county road map for visiting researchers and tourists. (This is a BEAUTIFUL map, courtesy of Wisconline®.) Coming Soon: * More family lineages (Bourgeois, Durocher/Desrochers, Rocheleau). * Brief history of Menekaune (East Marinette, sometimes called "Fishtown"). * Peshtigo Times obituary index (this will be an ongoing project). * List of miscellaneous geographic place names -- useful finding aid for family who lived in "unpopulated" areas of the county. For quick links to What's New, go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~wimarine/new.html Please stop by and visit! Your feedback is welcome.
