Hi all, Hope your holidays are going great...mine just got better! Ancestry's list of free databases for today include the 1900 Fed. Census for Marinette Co. WI.... Anne Florence CC <<MARINETTE COUNTY, WISCONSIN CENSUS, 1900 (Excluding Grover Precinct) Marinette County, Wisconsin is located in the northeastern part of the state. In 1900, the county was home to nearly 30,900 residents. Most of the residents lived in or near the city of Marinette. This database consists of the 1900 U.S. Census (except Grover Precinct) taken in Marinette County, Wisconsin between 1 June 1900 and 28 June 1900. It includes approximately 29,000 individuals. Each record gives the individual's name, date of birth, age, place of birth, marital status, father's place of birth, mother's place of birth, immigration date, and census precinct residence. Researchers should remember that census databases are one of the most comprehensive sources for family history research for any geographical location. Source Information: Bouchard, Joe, comp. Just like old St. Nick, I've come down your chimney with hopefully a load of goodies for all the boys and girls doing research in Richland County, WI. Rummaging through my sack, I spot a package with a big red bow. On closer inspection it appears to be the long awaited - Town of Orion - http://www.rootsweb.com/~wirichla/chap28.htm But wait, I seem to spy another package for the good folk of Richland - hmm, it appears to be, can it be the - Town of Akan - http://www.rootsweb.com/~wirichla/chap19.htm - apparently so! Well I seem to be about ready to move on when something tells me to take another look in my sack - and what to your wondering eyes appears but - the Town of Richwood - http://www.rootsweb.com/~wirichla/chap30.htm Still the sack isn't empty, so again I dive into the sack and pull out even more stuff - this time it is a 1/2 of the Town of Richland - http://www.rootsweb.com/~wirichla/chap29.htm - the biographies are yet to be completed. Turning the sack inside out, one last package drops out - it is inscribed - 'Index.' - apparently the index of the Richland County history - contributed some time ago by a reader. You may find this 'index' under the history section on the web site. My sack is empty. I do wish to each of you as stated previously, a very blessed holiday season. Tim Stowell
I Want I want ancestors with names like Rudy Montagnard or Mechiznick Von Steuben or Spetznatz Giafortoni, not Mary Smith or William Johnson. I want ancestors who went to school, could read and write, purchased land, left detailed wills (naming a huge extended family as legatees), had their photographs taken once a year - subsequently putting said pictures in elaborate acid free albums with names, dates, and places. I want relatives who managed to bury their predecessors in established, still-extant (and indexed) cemeteries, with carved voluble and informative inscriptions on their headstones. I want family members who wrote memoirs, kept diaries, enlisted in the military, particularly officers who served in strategically important (and well documented) skirmishes. I want relatives who served as Congressional members, judges, councilmen, school teachers, county clerks, police officers, firefighters. I want relatives who had their children baptized in recognized houses of worship, "religiously" wrote in the family Bible, recording every little event and detailing the familial relationship of every visitor. I want immigrant progenitors to have arrived only in those years wherein passenger lists were indexed by the National Archives, to have applied for citizenship in those jurisdictions which have since established indices. I want relatives who were patriotic and clubby, joined every patrimonial society, kept journals, listed all their addresses, dated every piece of paper they touched and had paintings made of their houses. I want forebears who were wealthy enough to afford, and keep for generations, the tribal homestead and left all the aforementioned pictures, diaries and journals in the library. But most of all I want relatives I can FIND! ------------------------- Source: The Parkhurst Family Journal - Vol. 5, No. 1, Mar, 1999 - used by permission. With this short article, I wish to each and every one of you a blessed Holiday Season. Tim Stowell

Their special events web page ( http://www.gentech.org/2001brochure/special.htm ) advertises: National Volunteer Group Meetings Mark your schedule to include the first-ever RootsWeb and USGenWeb nationwide group meetings on Saturday at 5:00. Activists, prospective volunteers and users have the opportunity to network and sound off with ideas, improvements and plans. Meet the movers and shakers and let yourself be heard. Should this develop into dinner plans, then enjoy! There has been some discussion about this on some of the lists and perhaps some uncertainties about how this all developed due to the semantics of the word meeting. First, as a Board member I would like to assure everyone that there has been no plan made to have an official meeting implying decision making and that sort of activity. In fact, most of the Board was totally unaware of the event. It does seem that what was intended was a meeting in the sense of a get-together. Sooo... I would like to extend an invitation to all who can manage to be there on Saturday evening about 5 PM (see the bottom of http://www.gentech.org/2001brochure/saturday.htm ) to come and meet your fellow volunteers. Registration details and other information are available at the GenTech site: http://www.gentech.org/2001brochure/ but as this does not include any special registration or signing up for the USGenWeb get together on Saturday evening, I would love to hear from those who plan to attend so we can start a list of who will be there (and maybe start making some of those dinner plans referred to above <grin>). I've started the list at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nygenweb/gentech.html soooo... come join me on it <grin> Please feel free to forward this wherever you think some volunteers might see it. Hi all, I have been asked to forward this to you. Please take a moment to read, and to examine the ESC report if you haven't done so already. Tina *************** Hi my name is Linda Haas Davenport and I'm the CC for the Marion Co AR USGenWeb Project. I was also a member of the Election Study Committee and I'd appreciate a scant 2 minutes of your time. The Election Study Committee spent a very long and hard 7 weeks crafting the "rules" for a Standing Election Committee that would operate outside of the politics of the USGenWeb Project. This committee will be representing every single individual of the project and will not be directed by or under the control of the Advisory Board or any individual Advisory Board member, State Co-ordinator, special interest group or any group with an ax to grind - because this is what so many project volunteers said they wanted. Now the time has come for Project members to volunteer to serve on this committee and it is sad to say that only 7 members out of the, what 1,000 or 2,000+ (?) members of the Project, has bothered to volunteer. For those of you who "hate" the politics of the Project but would still like to help out, beyond your own web page(s), or one of those who feel your voice and/or vote isn't important - here is your chance to make a difference. I know that this time of year is extremely busy for everyone - but the work doesn't begin until after the first of the year. And, time is running out to volunteer - I urge you to please, please take the time to read the goals of the Election Committee at: http://www.timmweb.pair.com/esc/report.html And volunteer by sending an e-mail to **Both** Tim Stowell tstowell@chattanooga.net, National Coordinator AND Holly Timm, Representative at Large hollyft@bright.net by December 22, 2000. My 2 minutes is up - thank you so much for you time and your consideration. Hi! My server timed out when hitting send so I don't know if this made it out or not, if it did, then sorry for the duplication, just hit delete... I just got a nice email from a person who had visited our WoodCoWI site for the first time. It seems, it was difficult to get around the site for this person... Since our sites are designed for our researchers, things like this are important to know... And always welcome constructive criticism, as in Wood and Portage, it is our community of individuals who make the websites a reality... As a result of that email, I incorporated some of the suggestions, and while it is OK, am not sure it will fix the problem??? So, I need the users and the other CCs to help me out here... So here is the question. Do most CCs and researchers think putting all their links on the main pages is the way to go, or have a separate page with the links.... I used to do it the first way, and it totally cluttered the main pages and was slow loading (MANY MANY complaints about the slow loading part)... Now that I do it the other way, it seems researchers can't figure out that the WoodCoWI Links Index or the PortageCoWI Links Index is where all the Resources are listed. I am open for suggestion, but PLEASE EMAIL ME PERSONALLY and NOT on the mailing lists... makkuehl@yahoo.com OLD WAY is PortageCoWI http://www.rootsweb.com/~wiportag NEW WAY is WoodCoWI http://www.rootsweb.com/~wiwood/ Thanks in advance, oh, and keep in mind, while I want a great website, I have limited time, so don't go crazy on me (ha ha ha)...
