Hi Tina, I finally finished the "Thank You" pages for my counties. I am so glad you made this suggestion! (And that's all it was, was a suggestion -- not something that any of us have to do!) I have always tried to give credit where credit was due, always putting the contributor's name at the top of each page that contained information that they had sent to me. But by making a listing of every item that a person has donated, it really shows what hard work each person has put into our various websites. Some of these people really have impressive lists! It makes me appreciate them even more. Plus it shows others what sharing is all about (and might even encourage others to donate items to our site...hey, you never know!) Basically all these pages are the same, but the message is just as sincere on each of them. I really wouldn't have much on my county sites without these great people. Here are the links: Barron Co. - http://www.rootsweb.com/~wibarron/volunteers.htm Burnett Co. - http://www.rootsweb.com/~wiburnet/volunteers.htm Eau Claire Co. - http://www.rootsweb.com/~wieaucla/volunteers.htm Sawyer Co. - http://www.rootsweb.com/~wisawyer/volunteers.htm Trempealeau Co. - http://www.rootsweb.com/~witrempe/volunteers.htm Washburn Co. - http://www.rootsweb.com/~wiwashbu/volunteers.htm Thanks, Tina, for posting this on the state page for those of us who what to do this. BTW, I tried to find the link for it the other night, but couldn't find it on the state's main page. Is it there or am I just going blind? | ~) -- Nance mailto:nsampson@spacestar.net
Just updated the pages for HOWGS at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wiwood/HeartOWi/h-master.htm If you are researching in the WoodCoWI area, and not a member, you should check it out. For a small fee, you get some really nice benefits, especially if you are an out-of-stater like I am... Now, a comment: There were many problems with the pages, for a long time it would appear, yet none of my visitors gave me a heads up... Please if you visit a MAK site, let me know if a page has problems so I can change it. Include in your email the URL and what the problem is. This will aid other researchers in their quest for ancestors... Thanks. Hi all, I know this is a late announcement ... but I have invited Kevin Fraley this evening to the WIGenWeb Project Meeting. The last few weeks, many of you have had questions about census work, and he will be available tonight to answer them. So come armed with questions! Also, some of you have submitted brochures for the GenTech 2001 Conference, and they are awesome! Thank you! I am sure that will be a topic of discussion as well. And as always everything, and anything else you want to discuss! See you tonight! I just did a quick website to help beginners coming to WoodCoWI and PortageCoWI sites learn to navigate. Look on the main pages for WoodCoWI and PortageCoWI, for the link [Click Here if you need help using this site] : http://www.rootsweb.com/~wiwood/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~wiportag/ To go direct: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wiwood/x-helpme/ I hope this will help some of our visitors/researchers just learning the internet. Hi Rollie! It is so good to hear from you again. When I was first starting out on the Oconto County site over two years ago, Rollie helped me so much with organization of material, finding this material, deciding what would be most useful, formatting suggestions, and so much more. He is my hero. Qualified persons can now get Heritage Certificates for your ancestors. This is a new program of the Marathon County Genealogical Society. Pioneer Certificates will be issued to persons who ancestors were residing in Marathon County prior to 1861, Early Settler Certificates to those residing here prior to 1881, and Century Certificates to those residing here prior to 1901. Certificates may be issued in the name of another person, other than the applicant, such as a sibling, child or grandchild. An application will be required, and proof must be provided the the form of copies of documents establishing the facts claimed. Such documents include Census, Land, Church, School, Naturalization (including Declaration of Intent) Probate and Vital records. A compete list will be included with the application, along with instructions and tips. There will be a small fee - I believe it will be $5.00. To obtain an application packet, send a large self addressed stamped envelope with your request to MCGS PO Box 1512 Wausau, WI 54402-1512 or pick one up at a regular monthly meeting of the MCGS. It will also soon be available on the web site http://home.att.net/~mcgs/ Shelley

Thank you all that responded to the various "projects" that I have announced over the last few weeks. I know that you all work hard as I hear from visitors and from fellow volunteers daily about how terrific you all do! I know that you all care about the WIGenWeb, USGenWeb Project and our visitors. If I was misunderstood that the new pages and activities were *mandatory*, I apologize. I placed the Calendar and the Thank You pages online in response to all of your suggestions, which I appreciate, and hope you keep making! As for the brochure, I thank all of you that are interested, and Holly's generous offer to help! If you feel so inclined go for it! One final thought.. If and when anything is ever *mandatory* ... I will state it as moo-datory!! <VBG>.. Hope you all weren't thinking, I could write an e-mail without a very pathetic cow pun ........ Thanks again ALL of you, Keep up the good work! Tina
I would like to THANK my WoodCoWI and PortageCoWI contributors for all the data they have provided over the last four years... (soon to be five)... There is a bit about doing brochures and links to some samples at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nygenweb/brochure.html Also, if you are really unsure and inexperienced at that kind of word processor work, if you send me the words you want... a write-up of your county, I'll do my best to find time to do a brochure format for you or if you get it sort of together but have problems getting it to fit right, you can send me the file and we will *finetune* it for you. I am thrilled with the response in Wisconsin... although I have gotten some responses generally across the project, the only other state that compares in response is New York (and since I am SC there I guess you could expect that <grin>) Holly At 10:34 PM 1/4/01 -0600, you wrote: >Can someone define what is to be in the brochure or point us to one that >is already >done please? I wasn't sure how much you were counting on these projects so I am grateful that you explained they were voluntary only. Something to participate in if a coordinator had the time and thought it would assist the county site(s). I really like each one and plan to try and do what I can. I really appreciate the approach that these projects are available and supported on the state level as an opportunity if the coordinator chooses. This is only one of the things that I admire about Tina and the present "Crew". So much good support, encouragement, enthusiasm AND respect!! (Of course, the fun and humor are also a great bonus). Thank you very much for all you are doing. I know it has given me a much needed "boost" more times than I can count. Rita - Oconto County Whatever

None of these items (calendar, Thank you page, or brochure) are mandatory for us to do. I should have said this is something that I would LIKE to do for my counties. Tina has never made any demands on us to do things, but she is a great cheerleader and, in being so, has encouraged us to do things for the betterment of the WIGenWeb project. She knows how hard we all work at our county sites and if there is a way that she (and we) can show the rest of the world what we are doing, Tina's here to encourage us to do it. She has brought us all together to make a great team and for that I am thankful. I apologize to you all if I made any of these projects sound as if we MUST do them. I promise to be more careful in my wording in the future. I am looking forward to another great year of working with each of you. We have much to share with the world. Thank you, Tina, for giving us other opportunities to get the word out. The sun is out in northern Wisconsin and it's finally above zero after what seems like weeks of subzero temperatures. I think I'll just smile all day! :~) -- Nance mailto:nsampson@spacestar.net
Neither is a mandatory thing... I had thought the calendar was just a Wisconsin-wide thing, but I'll have to go back and look at it. I must have missed the email although I did see the calendar. The brochure is by no means mandatory. It is just something fun you can do if you are so inclined. We are working on the state brochure, but I doubt I will have time to do them for any of my counties. Kelly > Hi Tina, > I think I missed something here along the way.
