Go Figure - but boy am I glad!! Just got thru saying that Ashland County needed something - but I had high hopes. Well today I was sent a tour of Ashland County in old early 1900's postcards from Mike Henderson - who so very generously donated them to the site. http://www.rootsweb.com/~wiashlan/Ashlandphotos.html YEAH!!!!!! Can ya tell I'm pleased? <VGB> Jan Ashland County Visit Jansdigs for History & Genealogy http://www.jansdigs.com/
Dear Deb Congratulations on serving on a jury - your civic mindedness is inspiring and more people should follow your example, and not try to use every excuse to get out of "doing your duty". A wonderful article! Shelley Marathon and Lincoln Counties

FYI, just received.. Tina ___ Subj: GenConnect Server Down Date: 1/31/01 9:32:03 PM Eastern Standard Time From: joan@rootsweb.com (Joan Young) To: GC-ANNOUNCE-L@rootsweb.com The GenConnect server is down for maintenance. The NOC staff has built a new RAID and is in the process of backing everything up to the new raid. When this is completed they will put the server back online. Hopefully this will solve the problems we've been having with this server recently. No word on exactly when the server will be back online. We'll let you know when that happens. Joan

Dane and Iowa counties links look just great. I hope to get a Dane county resource page up there soon - as long as MS Office doesn't keep crashing on me right at the same time that I try to save the file :-( Iowa will be next with some fresh new material after Dane's resource page is complete. This is quite extensive of an undertaking for right now. Thanks! Marathon and Lincoln counties are both OK - I have been working on getting the complete 1870 census for Marathon County, and just did the 1855 census for both counties. (Actually it is the same for both counties, as Lincoln was still part of Marathon in 1855) Shelley Green
Don Litzer (Head of Adult Services McMillan Memorial Library 490 E. Grand Avenue Wisconsin Rapids, WI 54494 (715) 423-1040) came up with a really concise handout entitled "LEARNING ABOUT GENEALOGY AND THE INTERNET". He has put it up on the internet for all of us to use as a reference, and I have also included the link on our HELP ME I AM NEW pages... You can check it out at: http://www.scls.lib.wi.us/mcm/programs/genealogyconnectat.html Also, it is time to update your bookmarks... Don pointed out that our old site for WoodCoWI Historical Newspapers was terribily out of date: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wiwood/HeartOWi/h-news.htm Instead of trying to update, all the information is provided in a wonderful format at: http://www.scls.lib.wi.us/mcm/ref/local_genealogy.html Be sure to visit it and change your bookmarks, as the old site is sure to disappear, and all our pages will point to Don's new URL ... A great big thank you to Don Litzer, McMillan Memorial Library, and their wonderful staff in their continuous efforts to promote FREE on-line genealogy. The main link to McMillan Memorial Library is at: http://www.scls.lib.wi.us/mcm/ and if you haven't been there in awhile, be sure to go browse and be sure to send your kudos... Again, thanks Don, keep up the great job!!! Those of us whose only access to your wonderful library is through cyberspace appreciate it greatly. Florence County checking in..... The map link to Florence goes to some unknown homepage in some unknown galaxy, but the text link to Florence on the county page is correct. Can I ask a small, small favour? My last name isn't spelled right---I use "Taylor-Czaplewski" instead of Czaplewska....I know, all those Polish last names...<chuckle> Florence is still decked from the Christmas season....but then, so is my house! <VBG> And the "new" stuff on the site is Pre-1907 Death, and I'm working on W.W.I Civil Registration....I'd kill for one living person in Florence County with ANYTHING to contribute! LOL....make that one living person, ANYWHERE!! "May the force be with you...." Anne
HERE! Portage and Wood Counties are up and running fine. I too, am glued to the computer, but doing more work than play (dissertation stuff)... Hello: All the links are working and I am here. Been up to my butt in stuff. Have placed another town from the 1880 census online thanks to a worthy volunteer and am still working on creating a bride index to go with the groom for the pre-1907 marriages. Debbie High and Dry in Western Washington

Has anyone considered this for their > county sites? > Does anyone know if Rootsweb provides Wireless Hosting???? > As far as I understand it, these devices use a text-only display language called HDML. Seems like it could be useful for business people on the road -- for viewing stock listings, directories, order info, etc. Seems less likely it would catch on or be useful in the genealogy world. I don't know if Rootsweb provides an HDML server, but I for one am not likely to jump on that bandwagon unless someone can prove to me there are more than 3 or 4 handheld geeks out there who really need (not just want) it ... <g> Deana Hipke Marinette County WiGenWeb Coordinator http://www.rootsweb.com/~wimarine

Marinette County here. My state page and map links are fine. What's New: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wimarine/new.html * War casualties memorial page, including age, hometown, place and date of death, and !!!photos!!! (thanks to a great volunteer contributor) * Complete transcription of the Marinette County Centennial History, including segments on the townships and communities, fishing, agriculture, transportation, medical care and education. Lots of surnames and interesting tidbits of info in here! * I have started an obituary index to past issues of the Peshtigo Times. I have about 4 years' worth -- I'm guessing about 800 names. Maybe half done so far ... Coming Soon: * More family lineages (another volunteer contributor!) * List of miscellaneous geographic place names (those you don't usually find on a map) Deana Hipke Marinette County WiGenWeb Coordinator http://www.rootsweb.com/~wimarine The Great Peshtigo Fire of 1871 http://userpages.chorus.net/dhipke/peshtigo.html Researching: CAHEE, LaCOMBE, BETTERS/LeMIEUX, RONDEAU (MI, WI, NY, Canada, France) HIPKE, BEYER, WEBER, ZITZER (WI, Poland, Russia, Germany) ----- Original Message ----- From: <WIGenWebProject@aol.com> To: <WIGEN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, January 29, 2001 8:04 PM Subject: [WIGEN-L] Administrative stuff... egads <g>...
