    1. Re: [WIGEN-L] charging
    2. I have as much information on my sites that I possibly can - and am constantly adding more. I have probably spent several hundred dollars on books on my counties that I have at home, ( my Marathon County book alone cost $110.00) and spend several hours a day answering as many questions as I can. However, when someone wants me to spend several hours just researching their family OUTSIDE MY HOME, I do charge. Shelley Marathon and Lincoln County

    3. Tina, Are these discussions saved by anyone? There is just no way for me to be making these times, no matter how hard I try. My hubby sleeps after supper for work and I need to get the 4 youngest settled into bed at 8:00 cst. It's 9:30 if I am lucky by the time that is done and then I need to make my hubby lunch and get him off to work. I am not back to the computer until 11:00 p.m. cst. Wish I could change things, but I can't. By chance am I one of the only ones who can't make these?? Debie

    1. Re: [WIGEN-L] how about voting in a policy agreed by majority
    2. To all, First off, MK, *could* you send me all the information you have on SMITH.. my maiden name.. <g>.. darn.. NY.. but what the heck you do have that right??? If the Cc's choose I would like to have your mailing address, and/or phone number, and would respect the privacy of such information. I will upon request, provide my address, phone number to any of you that wish to have it.. Heck, I will even throw in my birthday, so it could be really useful <VB.>! Currently, I maintain a database that includes County, Name, Role within WIGenWeb Project , and e-mail address for each of you. I use this information to send to the National level at least once a year for election purposes. I guess, the main purpose for my opening this discussion was to indeed set some guidelines that could be posted on our volunteer pages. For those of you that know me well, you know that I do agonize, and coming to a consensus as a group on these issues I hope will make it easier not only for me, but for all of you, and those that will be joining us in the future. As for time site un-maintained without contact and why, therefore, open to a new CC, that appears to be the sixty-four thousand dollar question. Just during my tenure as SC, many of us have faced life challenges, and we all have taken a break on some level from our pages, to deal with life. I do acknowledge that. (I divorced earlier this year.. Not a fun time in my life.) And again, let me state that the issue is not with the majority of you. You are all correct, that after all of this time, I do have a feel for the counties that are active and those that are not. I truly think the majority of you do a terrific job! I hope throughout this discussion you each remember that. Tim and others have made the suggestion so I will post it here.. have any of you heard from any of the following County Coordinators.. I will list just the counties. Jefferson County LaCrosse County Langlade County (just noticed I have wrong link on county page, will fix.) Oneida County Rusk County Shawano County Taylor County Vilas County Washington County Winnebago County I would also like to remind all CC's that the WIGenWeb logo, that you all voted and accepted is on the http://www.rootsweb.com/~wigenweb/graphics.html page, and that Debbie Barrett is the creator, and if you need her help in customizing a logo for your County, contact her MrsGrinnin@home.com Guess that is all for now.. I will address the "charging" subject in another e-mail, as it is indeed an important topic. Not sure about all of you, but I need coffee! Tina

Without thinking I guess I just assumed that everyone , like me got the Daily Board Show. I do know merope and its origins, but was thinking only of the problems with Ancestry and the layoff. 3. I'm glad the topic of 'charging' has come up. I've just gone through a 'hellish' weekend of fighting on one of my lists. Not because I charge for lookups, but because it has become known that someone else has been scanning the mail list and query boards and then contacting those people, getting them all excited about the possibility of "finally getting the information they are seeking" and then charging them $8.00 an hour for the minimal amount of information possible. I mean, if I 'm going to go to a courthouse and bother to look up a record, I'm gonna glean the information off that record for the other person so they don't "have" to order it if they don't want to, instead of just giving them the volume and page numbers -- geez Louise! Anyway, my point is, is there a way to stop this kind of activity? As for us CC's giving out our phone numbers and addresses, I don't have a problem with that at all. On the other hand, I'd like to have the SC's information too, in case something comes up where I could get in touch with her! 1. [WIGEN-L] Question
    2. Paula Vaughan
    3. Since there is a little bit of chit chat going on I have a question for everyone. When you get a complaint or a not favorable comment about a county which is not a county you are a coordinator of-what do you do? I have had this happen. This is what I have done-nothing. The complaint has been like "You are doing a great job - I just wish the person in charge of Such & Such County would take your lead." etc. I answer the person thanking them for taking the time to give me positive feedback and don't say anything else. I have thought about forwarding the email to Tina so she (you, Tina) can atleast see the email incase this is a "problem" county they are commenting about. I don't put too much thought into the complaint as I don't really know what is going on in the other counties-but wondered if I should forward like I said just incase it is "problem" county? Any thoughts anyone? Thanks for you input- Paula WaupacaCC _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

    1. [WIGEN-L] voting and wed meeting...
    2. MAK
    3. WOW, Tina, I will be there on Wednesday night with my thinking cap on... I have all my pages for each site backed up to disk in the event the server crashes or whatever. I also think we should discuss a "will" in the event (like Shelley said - one of us should croak! heaven forbid, but the chances increase as we age - grin) As for people asking for money, hmmmmm, I haven't seen that yet on our WI sites that I visited, but I don't get to all of them. I do see some things, like even on my site, where the information is copyrighted, and people are going out of their way to do the lookups, like traveling long distances and ask for a small donation..., or a list of professional genealogist (of course they get money - grin) Also some of the Genealogical Sites do ask for a donation also... I don't ask for or get a dime (so I was grinning about the cc who commented if they did, they'd be rich. Me TOO !!!} But I agree with Shari, if there is nothing on the site, and they are charging for every little thing, that is totally against our By-laws, and those people should be dealt with by the SC and /or national... Problem is, who is going to rat them out??? I am too busy doing my own sites to police others... Besides, we have a GREAT group of people here in WI, the cc's are always helpful, especially when I get requests for counties and cities no where near mine, I grin and pass them on... To date, not one cc, hasn't replied back to the person and me with a nice note and some data if they found it... And D, no I never was Miss Popularity, but then again, I am enjoying life, and have lots of fun... even if I am obnoxious at times (grin)... I really don't mean to be, it's my genes, half German and half French, what can I say??? Both sets of grandparents used to tell me I got all my bad traits from the other side of the family, does that mean I don't have any good traits (ha ha ha)... Tina, don't get a headache over this. BTW, I have a great story to share. As you may know, I live in Sunny Southern California, land of perpetual sunshine. On Saturday, it started out with a beautiful sunshine day where we were in Shorts and tank tops, and had two different earthquakes (one North of me, and one South) which both shook my house pretty good - felt like something hit the building), a thundershower (which killed my computer), hail, and snow, over the course of 8-10 hours within our little area from LA to Orange County... People were freaking out. Only in California... Today we are dealing with massive flooding and freezing temperatures (well for CA, that is)... 1. [WIGEN-L] how about voting in a policy agreed by majority
    2. Paula Vaughan
    3. I think the idea MAK had of setting up a policy and taking a vote on it would be a good way to go. Would help take it all off Tina's shoulders also-would be a group decision in a way. Don't know if the idea of having a phone number and snail mail address of each CC would do much. If the person isn't answering their email-I wonder if they would answer a letter or answering machine message. Also what happens when the CC who does not provide these things? I would think a policy should be the same for everyone. Another good idea MAK! 3. Shari, I didn't take it as being accused of charging others, guess for my own peace of mind I wanted to make sure I didn't biff something in my pervious letter to the list. I sometimes have a great deal of trouble getting what my mind thinks to come out of my fingertips and still make sense. Like yesterday the letter I wrote was suppose to be siding with Tina for all of her attempts and in the end it came out looking like I was doing the opposite and had to once again clarify things. So I just wanted to make sure I didn't do that again today :-) Debie Blindauer Sheboygan & Calumet Counties
