I am proud to say that thanks to WoodCoWI's numerous contributors to our Archives, our index was so large and took so long to load that we got a new look... Please go check it out at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/wi/wood/wood.htm Be sure to query your surnames in the Archives search engine and find out where your ancestors information may be lurking on the internet... Also, a gigantic thank you to Maryls MANLEY STECKLER who transcribed all the LHS (Lincoln High School) graduates and donated them for use on our pages: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/wi/wood/w-lhs.htm I just checked and the names are showing up on the search engine already!!!! This is a great way to check for children and see who is here and when they graduated... WOW, Maryls thank you so much!!! PortageCoWI Archives still has the old look, but the search engine works there just fine, also... <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~wimarath/">Marathon County Wisconsin Genealogy Wigenweb</A> Thanks to Ruby Sweet, we now have 6 townships online - Bergen, Berlin, Brighton, Easton, Knowlton and Wien/Rib Falls. Hello Again- I just wanted to add a little more information about the Waupaca Cemetery photos. Some helpful hints that may help me find "your" ancestor's. 1-Please include death dates if possible-this gives me some glue of what kind of a stone I am looking for. 2-If you can obtain or have the plot or site within the cemetery, please include this information. Telling me Joe Smith is buried in Floral Hill Cemetery when Floral Hill is quite a large cemetery - does not give me much hope of finding the headstone. 3-If you have the maiden name of wife's, please include. Sometimes families are buried near each other. Any information that will help me find your ancestor's headstone for you-please include. I'd rather have more information than I need-then not the one little thing that could help me find it. I print out the email i receive with your information and hold this in a file until I travel to the cemetery in which your search is. Also remember-some times it may seem it may be taking a long time to obtain this and it may be a little bit of time-but I will try and I will email you when I have visited the cemetery of you search with any information. Just a reminder-snow is still on the ground and will start this project again after the snow has melted and ground is not solid mud. If you have any questions please contact me. Hello! The Oconto County Sesquicentennial excitement continues for the month of Feb: For all the specific postings of old family news, obituaries galore (thanks especially to Ron Renquin), marriages, birth and deaths and direct page links please see: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wioconto/newest.htm Mary Beth (Noonan) Jensen - our lookup specialist, now has an archives of the early area family questions and answers from the past. This is a wonderful resource! Also new to this page is a rough draft of the George & Richard Hall book "Bicentennial Recollection of Oconto County", it had not index but contains hundreds of family names so this is an important addition, Check out your surnames at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wioconto/lookups.htm There are several very fine new Family Pages contributed by researchers for the names DONOVAN, MARTIN, BIRR, STECKER, LESSOR, PRICE, HEIDELWORTH, DAVIS, PHELAN, AND COVEAU (with alternative spellings on most), and many old family photos are shared for your help and enjoyment: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wioconto/fampg.htm Interesting new entries for the Women of Oconto County Page include PAULINE LaBUDDA and THERESA FLATLEY: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wioconto/OCWomen.htm BUT THE MOST EXCITING this month, is the finding of a very old box of abandoned county newspaper clippings (1883 into the 1960's), from an attic in an old Oconto Falls home. Richard LaBrosse is feverishly editing, copying and sending each item to the site and some of the articles are already posted, with all the rest to come as soon as possible. This is several hundred entries which represent much of county family genealogy and history.! What a treasure, both the box and Richard's help! Our very best to you. Please enjoy! Rita
I just got a note that some of the USGenWeb boards were put up for adoption by accident, so you might want to check yours, but DON'T PANIC YET... They are going to fix it, like the February stuff, but the timeframe keeps moving... Also, you may see the USGenConnect Boards go down on and off, that is because they are attempting to fix the Archives problem. Delays are minimal, so if it is down when you check, be sure to check back later... And hang on to your patience (grin)... after all, we are dealing with computers, and everyone knows how finicky they can be... Hello - Well February has been a rather slow month for me due to recuperating from a work injury-but things seem to be on the up-swing now and I am hoping to get back into my regular routine. With going back to work and PT three times a week please be patient when I may be a little slow in responding. Also we will have a new name to add to our personal family research as our son is getting married on May 12, so this is a busy time also with wedding plans, etc. Well enough about me! The next major project for the Waupaca County Website is going to be transcribing the census. This will be a long and some times tedious project, but well worth the efforts. I want to thank Patti Wenham who will be assisting with the transcription and Geraldine Trirud who has agreed to proof read. Hopefully in the next month this project will be off the ground and moving forward. Also with Spring around the corner (I'm ready for it too!) I will be back at visiting some of the Waupaca County cemeteries for photos. If you have a gravesite you are interested in seeing placed on the website, please email the information to me. I can not promise that I will find or photo the gravesite, but the more information you can give me on the location of the gravesite will improve my chances of finding it. Although I would love to, time does not permit me to do the research in finding your family gravesites, but if you can do the research and email me the information on the location of the gravesite I will do my best to locate it. I use a digital camera and do not have copies of the photos to send to you but I can email you a copy of the digital photo if you wish. As there is still some snow on the ground here at this time, I am hoping to be back at this project in the coming month also. I want to thank all of the researchers who have submitted information for postings this past month. Remember, you may find that "brick wall" or lost cousin by sharing your information on the query board. Some of you may be asking when are the births or deaths from the Wisconsin Pre-1907 Birth and Deaths indexes for Waupaca COunty going to be posted for my surname? I must admit this has not been one of my favorite projects. But I will make every effort to get back to this project and get it completed. Additions for the month of February have been: Births In Waupaca County - Births added to surnames beginning with the letters H, K and L Books - New book listing added Deaths In Waupaca County - Additions to the surname page beginning with the letters F and K Dictories and Telephone Books - This is a new page added with the following transciptions now on lone: Wisconsin State Gazetteer Business Directory 1895-1896 Volume IX by R. L. Polk & Co.. Transcriptions of Clintonville, Embarrass, Fremont, Northport, Manawa, Marion, Parfreyville, Symco and Waupaca R. L. Polk & Co.'s Wisconsin Gazetteer and Business Directory For 1903-04. Transcription of Clintonville, Embarrass, Manawa, Marion, Symco and Waupaca R. L. Polk & Co.'s WISCONSIN GAZETTEER and BUSINESS DIRECTORY For 1911-1912. Transcription of Clintonville, Embarrass, Marion, Northport and Waupaca Family and Folk Fotos - Fotos have been added from the Lamphear and Theys family. Photos of groups of students from the Hatton and Reamer Schools also added and check the Unidentified photos for a new photo submitted by P. Wenham. Marriages in Waupaca County - Additions to the list of surnames beginning with the letters F, L and M. Waupaca County Asylum - Transcription from the R. L. Polk & Co.'s Wisconsin Gazetteer and Business Directory For 1903-04 of complete list of Wisconsin County asylums. Theses pages can be found on the index page of Waupaca County Website at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wiwaupac/index.htm Sorry this email has been a lengthy one, but wanted to inform the researchers of the Waupaca area past and up-coming information. Tina and all, Yes, email is extremely slow getting out here to CA... I can't tell you how thrilled I was to see the USGenConnect Boards back up, and THEN to my dismay, the Feb stuff (which I did a lot this month) was gone.... Rootsweb so kindly explained it at http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/ but didn't see it until I almost had a cow, ha ha ha, but who goes there anyways???? Perhaps rootsweb should have a page where Techno stuff if down, so before asking stupid questions or flipping out - like what the heck happened to the Boards, we could go there to find out (grin) ha ha ha... I always want the easy way. Well, the good news is the USGenConnect Boards are back up. The bad news is that some of the boards are missing all the February posts (yes, both WoodCoWI and PortageCoWI are affected)... There is nothing I can do at the moment. They are going to restore it with the backups, so PLEASE do NOT NOT NOT resend the February posts!!! Wait for them to fix it (PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE)... BTW, My box is filled to the gills with posts and queries from during the "time out" so please give me time to deal with them, and we'll get our counties back on track shortly ... If you have concerns, please read the notice(s) that are being posted at: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/ Thanks.
