    3. Tina, To quote MAK's letter, she stated that she unsubs, see below. I am only going by what she said herself. Debie "Paula - I like having the list archived, so if I am away for a few weeks, I can unsub and then go there and read the discussion where I left off - this way, my emailbox doesn't fill up... also, you can go back and see what exactly was said about topics, who responded and who didn't. That is how I knew only 11 cc's responded to the topic on voting... I can't imagine what we would say that we would need a closed list - Just my thoughts. 3. MAK, How come you can unsub from this mailing list? When I requested no mail when my dad was in serious condition, I had to go to digest mode. Just wondering how this works, I was under the solid impression that you had to be subbed to the list, period. 3. Debie - you are right (dah), bad choice of words, I unsubbed from all but this list - this is the list that bounced me out (grin)... so, it was an unsubbed inadvertantly - not on purpose... (I am getting old and forgetful)... I got more that 100 spams in a day on my old email address - and even in the digest mode I got bounced - so I finally changed to a new email. It was a good thing the mailing list was archived - so I could go back and read it. Sorry about that. Thanks for catching my error. 3. Jan, if you are wondering how she got your email, she probably has a subscription filter search engine with rootsweb, as I do. If she requested all emails with her name, anytime her filter hits her name, it sends her the email. I sort for KUEHL so I get all sorts of emails with KUEHL in them this way. I will of course do whatever you all wish regarding this. Paula let me check into what unarchiving does, and get back to you all. 3. The list has been archived since for as long as I can remember. No real purpose I guess, other that it has always been that way. Benefits is a history of discussions etc., but none other that I can think of. I thought after I sent my note to Jan, that PML might have been used on Jan's message. My understanding of PML is it is a facility to notify other than subscribers of keyword topics that may interest them. 3. I received the same email and was a little puzzled. Is this site a subscription site? I am curious why they just won't link to the homepage of a county site and let the researcher see for themselves what is available free from the actual county site the information is posted on. 2. Jan Cortez
    3. I find this type of site very annoying because it links to the hard work of others, and makes money off from it as well, using affiliate links. It, no doubt, is a good research site, so that researchers don't have to go from county site to county site, but, still a money making proposition, off others work. I guess I'm more into *free* genealogy on the web, but, realizing it is free to the researcher, or, at least until it builds. I also have a WI Marriage site, that is run from my own domain, which I add the marriages to, from what others send me, linking to the county sites and listing the researchers email. I do the work of putting it online, I pay for the domain space, and then someone like this comes along, making money from it all. I only link when a link is sent to me. <sigh> Bottom line is, it is legal.
