I'm finally done with the History of Crawford and Richland Counties history from 1884. The final chapters are a brief overview of Wisconsin history: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wicrawfo/wihist-1.htm - Pre-Historic and Settlement. - Pages 1 - 34 http://www.rootsweb.com/~wicrawfo/wihist-2.htm - Wisconsin as a Territory. - Pages 34 - 41. http://www.rootsweb.com/~wicrawfo/wihist-3.htm - Wisconsin as a State. - Pages 42 - 68. Enjoy. I found the history quite interesting - Did you know that Wisconsin was part of the Northwest Territories, then Indiana Territory, Illinois Territory and finally Michigan Territory before becoming a Territory in its on right and that it once contained portions of Minnesota and Iowa lands before they came into their own? To top this off, I'm returning the book to its owner in Richland County this coming Monday. I'm driving up tomorrow and Monday. I'm planning on visiting folks in Richland and Crawford counties. I wonder if any of you folks live in that general area? If so, I'd be willing to wave in your direction. Tim

The Schufelts aren't up yet. I have sent what I gathered to the family researcher who contacted me and she will be organizing it for posting. It's best that they do it, more fun for them and less work for me. They have since sent other photos, some from the mid 1800's. There are a whole group of them working together, but the branch in Oconto has escaped their hunt until now. I sent smelling salts, as a joke, to my cousin along with the story of what had happened regarding his Schufelt photo. I'll get the family page up as soon as possible, after they send it in. I have to share this..... It's just too (you fill in the blank)! Last week a distant cousin in Florida sent me an old photo of the Rolla Schufelt farm in town of Oconto. It looks to be c:1900; give or take a couple years. My cousin is not related to them; he just saw the photo in an antique store and felt I might like it for the site. He kiddingly wrote that I was now supposed to find out who these folks were. After it arrived, I scanned it and decided to try and find out a little about these folks in hopes of posting a Schufelt Family "starter" web page for a family researcher to adopt. It was a complicated family that I got back to the 1700's in New York State, then Pennsylvania, Ohio and eventually to Oconto County Wisconsin. I had set the pages of raw data aside and wondered why the heck I was doing it? But it did come up quickly so I just kept going along. Never mind, I would try to build some connections out of it when I had a bit more time (ha, ha, ha). So this evening, 5 days later, I received an e-mail from a woman who had found the site; asking why there was no family page for the SCHUFELT family? She went on to say that she had bought an out of print cookbook "I Hear America Cooking" by Betty Fussell and after ignoring it for over a year, she began to read through it, looking mostly at the old photos from all over America. There she opened it to the page that was a photo of the ROLLA SCHUFELT farm in town of Oconto......and that was her ancestral family! She searched the internet for Oconto County and found the site, then e-mailed me. When I sent her my scan, it was the very same photo. Got goose bumps yet? Well, guess what my cousin sent in the mail today....... a copy of the cookbook "I Hear America Cooking" by Betty Fussell, which he had bought some time ago and never used. For some unknown reason, he just started looking through it and noticed the same photo of the Rolla Schufelt farm that he had bought at the antique store. Knowing I love history and cooking, he sent the book to me as a keepsake. He did not know I had just read the e-mail from the Schufelt descendant. The page was not up on the site yet. And today all three photos of the farm came together! Remember the old TV Show "The Outer Limits"? Doo dee doo dooo...... Sleep well, Rita - Oconto County WIGenWeb Coordinator.
