There were three GENGLER's who signed my great grandfather's (Dr. Joseph LINGER, November 10, 1871-October 05, 1941) funeral book back in 1941. Dr. Joseph LINGER's father was Dr. Christian LINGER--who had changed his name from LENGER to LINGER at some point in time. There was a sister of Christian LINGER/LENGER, Margaret LENGER, who married a DIDERICH. Christian LENGER/LINGER married Eva MICHELS, the daughter of George MICHELS and Anna Marie THELEN. On checking naturalization records for George Michels I found a record for a George Michels born in the year 1795. He was 45 at the time of his arrival in the Port of Baltimore on August 16, 1840. In checking the ship record, I did not see a wife or children listed..so am wondering if they arrived at a later date on another ship--or if George MICHELS married after arriving in the US. Vol 14, page 36 George Michels Port Washington, Wisconsin Date and Port of Arrival: August 1840--Baltimore Date of Declaration: Dec 25, 1844--Circuit Court Date of Naturalization: October 27, 1854--Circuit Court Date and place of birth: Prussia--aged 45 years Witness: John Hovenkost By 1850: 1850 Washington County Census page 216: George Michels aged 41 born in Prussia Mary Michels aged 37 born in Prussia Elisa Michels aged 16 born in Prussia Ann Michels aged 7 born in Prussia Avah Michels aged 3 born in Prussia ** John Hafman aged 45 born in Prussia (laborer) **Eva, future wife of Christian LENGER/LINGER (September 09, 1847-December 13, 1919) I have been unable to find a Naturalization for Christian LENGER or LINGER. (1838-November 03, 1910) Yesterday, I was able to get up to the Washington County Courthouse in West Bend, Wisconsin. It appears that the Gengler's may have settled in that County in or around the Town of Trenton. Other related names may include: MICHELS, LINGER, LENGER, HAUSMANN, THELEN, HETEBRUEG, OLLINGER, FISCHER and DIDERICH. I am also very interested in any families who settled/lived in an area of Milwaukee County known as GRANVILLE and ENGELSBERG. Some attended a a mission church (St. Martin's) on what is now Appleton Ave..the church is no longer in existence, but the cemetery is still there. I am told that the church records are in the keeping of St. Agnes Church in Butler...originally it was a mission extension of St. Anthony's in Fussville, Waukesha County. I would be interested in exchanging information with you, however, I will be relocating shortly after Christmas (Dec 26th 2001-January 7th 2002).
