She said that Louise was so frantic that she cut her red hair and drank cow's blood (which was said to be a cure for TB), but obviously it was not and she died. The odd thing here is that Louise was born in 1873 in Germany and came to Fond du Lac the following year. Maybe my grandmother was getting the names mixed up and meant that Eugene was the father of the Lallier that Louise was engaged to. The Mittelstaedts are pretty non-descript. Fred was a Lutheran mason from Germany, his wife, Caroline was a Polish Catholic. They had 10 children all together, and Louise was the first daughter that lived to be over 15. She died in 1897. Do you have any Lalliers that fit in to the 1870s? I'm not too vain to say that what I was told was not incorrect, but my grandmother was sure that there was an unfullfilled engagement somewhere. I'm attaching a photo of Louise.
