The Lallier family was very well known while here in Fond du Lac. They hired many young men in town to work on their truck farm. The farm was located on Fourth St Rd, on the east edge of the city along deNevue creek. Both of my grandfathers worked for the Lallier family. My grandfather Bruno Berghandler is listed with the Frank Lallier family in the Wis 1905 census. My grandfather John Reinhardt (and his brother Ed) also worked and boarded with the family when he was a young man. At that time, a young man was still considered under the care of his parent until he reached the age of 21, but this was not something that everyone agreed with or enforced. Especially if a 19 or 20 year old struck out on his own. However, when my grandfather John worked for the Lalliers, his father would take a walk to the Lallier place every payday, to collect his sons wages for himself. In later years my grandfather related that several times, when they saw Charles Reinhardt coming to collect his sons wages, they would alert John, and then tell his father that John was not there, and they had already given John his wages. They thought it was so unfair that Johns father insisted on taking his wages from him. My mom (age 93) also said that Gene Lallier(?) also took up sailboating, and was well known in the area for that. She also thought that the family had another son Kenneth, she thinks. Just wanted to send that along. I would be most interested in knowing anything else about the Lallier family, to post on the Fond du Lac website. I found it interesting to know that they also had the large gardens in France before coming here. tracy reinhardt
