The transcription gives Matilda's Marital status as "M", i.e., married, rather that "W", so maybe her husband was alive. It's possible that Joseph was logging or trapping or such, living elewhere in Wisconsin or Minnesota, when the census was taken. Presently, my database lists only two Corbeille men who lived in Fond du Lac Co. and had wives named Mathilda. One is Everiste (1857-1917), but his wife was born 1857. The other is Joseph (1833 - 22 Jan 1894), who is buried in St. Charles Cemetery. His wife, also buried there, is "Corbeille, Mathilde Croux, w/o Jos. Corbeille, d. 18 Apr 1892, ae 59 yrs", which implies a birth year of about 1833. It's possible that the Matilda in the census is the one buried at St. Charles. However, I don't have any other information about that couple buried at St. Charles; it would help if someone knew the names of their children, if any.
