He was a brother-in-law of James Cox, of north of town, and leaves a widow and one son. Mr. Petrie was a shoemaker by trade and while living here (about twenty years ago) worked for Wm. Huseman deceased, and made the big boot, which is conspicuous on the west side of the square, and is claimed to be the largest leather boot ever made. Pike County Democrat, Pittsfield IL, April 5, 1905, p. 5, c.1 Peter Petre, one of Kampsville's leading business men and an aged and respected citizen, died at his home in Kampsville Sunday April 2, 1905 and the remains taken to Pittsfield, Ill, for interment. Mr. Petre conducted a general hardware store and harness shop and will be greatly missed by the citizens of north Calhoun.
