I am looking for local information on Magnus Schneider (Snyder) who lived in Calumet Twp when he enlisted into the Civil War. He was with Co. E, 26th Reg of Ws. volunteers. Magnus was taken prisoner May 1864 and brought to Andersonville prison where he died in Spt. of 1864. I do have some of his government records but I am wondering if there would be anything in an old local paper that may have listed him as a prisoner or died. An obit maybe? I would appreciate any direction or help with this. I have looked into the Andersonville site on the web. Thank you, Paula Malikowski
"Hi" I belong to this list....found a couple of items on Magnus Schneider, but not much. The link to Fond du Lac may be a clue that he was buried near there. http://www.wlhn.org/fond_du_lac/military/cwname_s.htm Go to: www.google.com and type: Magnus Schneider + Andersonville. There is a link to someone named Russ Scott and the Andersonville Cemetery. At www.newspaperarchive.com there were 8 hits. May not be the same man tho!!! This is a fee-based database but you can search for free for 1 week. ----- Original Message ----- From: "kevin malikowski paula talbot" <doghouse1@brainerd.net> To: <wifonddu@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, January 19, 2007 12:05 PM Subject: [WIFONDDU] Andersonville prisoner/local >I am looking for local information on Magnus Schneider (Snyder) who lived >in Calumet Twp when he enlisted into the Civil War.
