The former village constable was honored at a Sunday birthday party. Frank Thornburg of North Fond du Lac spent Sunday afternoon celebrating "90 years of experience," as he referred to it. Friends and relatives of Mr. Thornburg's gathered at the Lakeside Park Pavilion Sunday for a surprise reception to honor him. His 90th birthday is actually today. Thornburg was village constable from 1922 to 1932. The constable-elect was then also appointed as village marshal. As the North Fond du Lac constable-marshal, Thornburg's responsibilities were law enforcement, street commissioner, fire chief, dog catcher, janitor of the village hall and curfew bell ringer (9 p.m.). He was also responsible for street snow removal. Thornburg estimates that he was paid about $40 a month. In addition, he explained, "I made a little commission from arrests...and $2 for shooting a dog." North Fond du Lac was "a railroad town," with both the North Western and Soo Line. It was the Prohibition years and the classic "bums" made their way into the North Fond du Lac yards. Those men were also Thornburg's responsibility. He would provide the two-cell jail and the men would provide their own coffee pots. Often, Thornburg said, he would "help out" 300 men a month, especially during the winter months. He farmed in the Town of Springvale and Rosendale and during World War II was a security guard at the Wisconsin Power & Light Co. substation in the village. He joined that company as a line patrolman after the war and retired at the age of 65. Mrs. Milton Booth of 509 Illinois Ave., North Fond du Lac, notes that he still tends a garden annually. Thornburg lives with his daughter, Mrs. Booth. Although born in California, he grew up in this state. His first wife Marie Yohann died, as did his second wife, Mrs. Ida Konow. I would LOVE to have a photo or 2 of gravestones. The names are Augusta Boettcher & Herman Boettcher. Augusta is buried in the Grace Lutheran Cemetery in Ripon, Wisconsin. I'm not sure about Herman. I'm just assuming that he is buried there as well. If you can't take photos right now that's fine. I would really LOVE to see photos of their gravestones, but, what I'm really wanting is all of the info that is on their stones. And also any & all info if you happen to see anymore Boettcher's in that same cemetery. Thank You in advance for any and all help that you can give me. You can e-mail me at: iluvfrogs8493@yahoo.com. Hello All: My name is Julian H. Preisler and I reside in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia near Washington, DC. I am searching for a person who can take a color photograph of the exterior of Temple Beth Israel in Fond du Lac located at 149 East Division Street. I am researching American Synagogue Architecture and am in the process of creating an e-Book on the subject. Photo credit will be given to the photographer both in the research project and upon publication. If anyone can do this for me or knows of someone who is willing to assist, please do get in touch with me. Photographs can be digital (preferred), but I can also accept regular print photographs and can scan them into the database. I have photographs of many of the Jewish temples and synagogues in Wisconsin and would also like to include the one in Fond du Lac. I thank you in advance for your help and look forward to hearing from any of you. Sincerely, Mr. Julian H. I find him mentioned in the History of Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, Western Historical Company, Chicago: 1880 as located on Rootsweb as follows: "It was a large town at first; an act approved March 11, 1848, making what is now Eldorado and Friendship a separate town called Eldorado. The first town meeting was held in April, 1848, at the house of Cyrus Parks," I am wondering if he may be the father of Daniel Parks married to Mary Freeman and the Nathaniel Parks who was a civil war veteran of the same area. is anyone researching this family? Hoping someone can supply me with a newspaper article upon Taycheeday Prison concerning the biting of an officer & info on the outside charges filed. Supposedly it was listed in this weeks Fond du Lac Reporter. I cannot seem to locate the article on the web, unless I'm looking wrong. Unsure what page it was on or what day. Thank you, Kathy

Just a wild guess on my part but sounds like it could possibly be Taycheedah which is behind the Taycheedah Penitentiary & has not been used in over 60 years to what I was told. Possibly incorrect info. -----Original Message----- From: wifonddu-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:wifonddu-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of gc-gateway@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, March 07, 2007 7:36 PM To: WIFONDDU-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [WIFONDDU] Cemetery Name, Fon du Lac County This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list.
