    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Krause - Fink Classification: Queries Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/jEC.2ACE/1287 Message Board Post: Looking for information on GOTTLIEB AND LOUISA FELHAVER KRAUSE who may have come to America with their sons JOHN FERDINAND KRAUSE, born 22 Dec. 1851, and JOHN AUGUST KRAUSE, born 18 Mar. 1840. They arrived in 1867 from Arnswalde, Prussia and settled in the Milwaukee and Fond du lac, WI areas. I've seen Gottlieb's name also listed as JOHN ERDMAN THEOPHILUS KRAUSE. Also would like to locate descendants of EMMA KRAUSE FINK who was married to THEO FINK in Milwaukee. Their children were FLOSSIE, HENRY, HUGO, ELMER AND MILDRED.

    1. Telephone Poles
    2. Stan Hodge
    3. There was a Midwestern phone company that was going to hire one team of telephone pole installers, and the boss had to choose between a team of Polish guys and a team of Irish guys. So the boss met with both teams and said: "Here's what we'll do. Each team will be installing poles out on the new road for a day. The team that installs the most phone poles gets the job." Both teams headed right out. At end of the shift, the Irish guys came back and the boss asked them how many they had installed, and they said that it was tough going, but they'd put in twelve. Forty-five minutes later, the Polish guys came back in and they were totally exhausted. The boss said, "Well, how many poles did you guys install? "The team leader wiped his brow and sighed, "We got three in." The boss gasped, "Three? Those Irish guys put in twelve!" "Yeah," said the Polish leader, "but you should see how much they left sticking out of the ground!"

    2. The Anna KASPAR would be too old, my HANSEL's being born between 1860-1870. I have no further knowldedge of who Mr. CASPAR is, as the only reference I have is the obit for Anna (HANSEL) CASPAR's stepfather, which mentions her as Mrs. Anna CASPAR. This is the only information I have on CASPAR.

    1. Re: Schmuhls in Ripon/Fairwater
    2. Hi Jean, I really can't tell you too much about the Schmuhls either. My aunt said the following: "Grandma Schmuhl mentioned Hamburg, Germany. Also Wolfgrahm ?" Not too much to go on, I'm afraid. I know where Hamburg is but have no idea where Wolfgrahm is or if that is correct spelling. My mother said there was a John Schmuhl in Fairwater who she thought moved to Florida or somewhere - may have been related - may not have been. She tells me we lived in Fairwater for a short time when I was first born - so she may just have become acquainted with him since he was also a Schmuhl. And there was some sort of Aunt named Mrs. Hess ? who was a cousin to my grandfather - not sure of her name - but that was no doubt her married name. My great grandfather - Richard Schmuhl - married a Schrader (Schroeder) from Beaver Dam. Other names were Ricke and Boack and Schubert, Lehman, Schwandt. I doubt that much of this will help - it hasn't helped me so far. My mother's name Elizabeth Schmuhl - her father William Elmer Schmuhl 12-11-1895 - 6-18-1971 (wife Vivian Parker) -his father Richard Schmuhl 12-11-1868 Ripon - 9-12-1949 Ripon (wife Emma Schrader 3-7-1875 Beaver Dam - 2-18-1956 Ripon) - his father Carl Schmuhl (ND)(wife .............Ricke - ND) (Emma's father Wilhelm Frederick Schrader 1-4-1831 Ger, - 10-10-1896 Markesan. mother Carlina Wilhelmina Boack 1-8-1834 Ger. 10-17- 1914 Markesan That's about all I can tell you stay in touch [email protected] David

    1. Re: Schmuhls in Ripon/Fairwater
    2. I read your messages to Bob Schuster re: the possible connection between Schmuhls in Fairwater & Ripon. I am a descendant of the Fairwater Schmuhls. The furthest ancestor I can identify is John Schmuhl (my gr-great grandfather, Born approx. 1836) who died in Fairwater in 1882. I have located them on census records in Fairwater but have not been able to determine their whereabouts prior to arriving in Fairwater. I'm assuming they came from Northern Germany as they attended the Lutheran church in Fairwater and Lutherans typically resided in northern Germany. I have viewed the Fairwater church records and there was a notation of a Daniel Schmuhl who died in 1881 (Born approx. 1801). The church record books start approx. 1875 - I'm assuming there is a connection between Daniel & John but I haven't been able to make any advancements in that "theory". I thought perhaps Daniel was his father, (based on their years of birth) which would lead to me to wonder if John had siblin! gs (which could be your ancestors in Ripon)? What information can you give me re: your aunt's comment about them coming from Hamburg? I'm trying desperately to discover a place name in Germany from where they emmigrated.

    1. Bowen helps to begin Republican Party in Ripon, WI - 1854
    2. I have read that my relative Jehdeiah or Jediah or Jebediah Bowen helped to begin the new Republican Party in a little white church in Ripon, Wisconsin in 1854. I think Abraham Lincoln was the first candidate they supported. I would think someone that famous would be easy to find info about his ancestors. But I have found that not to be the case. I know he was part of a large Bowen family that came from Wales to Pennsylvania sometime between 1825-1850. Jehdeiah was born circa 1817 in (Llanelly?), Wales. He first married Harriet N. Root. Then in 1853 he married Emma C. Perkins. He died circa 18 Nov. 1891 in Ripon. I would really appreciate any information about his siblings and ancestors.

    1. Re: Schmuhls in Ripon/Fairwater
    2. Just wondering if you have ever had time to look into any possible connection between the schmuhl's from Ripon and those from Fairwater and Markesan. I recently spoke with a schmuhl in Ripon who said that her family used to visit an aunt in Fairwater when she was a child. She couldn't remember her name but my mother said there was a relative there possibly named Hess. My Aunt tells me that the Schmuhl's came from Hamburg. Still looking David

    1. Schoenborn - Johann Adam and his brother Johann Adam
    2. In response to the query seeking the origins of Catherine "Schenborn" born in 1828 in Alsace Lorraine who married a Pelky: The answer to this query turned out to be a little more complicated than I first thought. There were three men named Johann Adam Schoenborn in the early Catholic church records in Fond du Lac Co. (primarily at Marytown and Johnsburg) - all related and from the town of Otzenhausen. This town is close to Alsace Lorrain, but is actually in the current German state of Saarland. During the 19th century, this town belonged to the Trier district of the Rhineland. (The FHL catalog arranges Germany according to 1870 boundaries.) After Prussia took over Alsace Lorrain in 1871, at least some of the Saar area was in the same administrative area as Lorrain. Prior to 1800, Otzenhausen was in the catholic parish of Nonnweiler. Right about 1800, it got its own parish. The Nonnweiler parish records are available on microfilm, but not the ones for the parish at Otzenhausen. However, civil registration started in 1800 in Otzenhausen, and those records are available on microfilm. The early civil records are in French (Napoleonic era) and for the first few years the dates follow the French Republican calenadar. The first Johann Adam Schoenborn was born 4 Dec 1792, son of Johann Adam Schoenborn and Elisabeth Drocour or Trocour. He married 13 Jan 1813 to Dorothea Leismann. Although named Johann Adam in his birth and marriage record, in the birth records of his children that I spot checked, he is named and signs as just "Adam Schoenborn". The family of this Johann Adam Schoenborn and Dorothea Leismann is pretty well covered on several internet databases, including Ancestral File at familysearch.org and Ancestry World Tree at ancestry.com. The confusing part was that the same parents (J.A.S. and Elisabeth Drocour) had another son born on 17 Messidor XII (6 Jul 1804) named Jean Adam Schoenborn, married as Johann Adam Schoenborn on 1 Feb 1826 to Anna Schwickert. In the birth records of a couple of his children that I looked at, he is named and signs as "Johann Adam Schoenborn." Then these two brothers with almost the same name both had daughters born in 1828 named Catharina. The older brother and Dorothea Leisman had a Catharina born 3 Apr 1828, and the younger and Anna Schwickert had a Catharina born on 3 Aug 1828. The older J.A.S. and Dorothea Leismann also had a son named Johann Adam who married Agnes Wilhelm 29 Feb 1840. All of these people were in Fond du Lac Co. before 1850. Many of the descendants of J.A.S. and Dorothea Leismann stayed in FdL Co. However, it appears that J.A.S. and Anna Schwickert moved on to Stearns Co. Minn by the 1860 census, where they can be reasonably identified. There are marriages for two Catherine Schoenborns in the early civil records of Fond du Lac Co. Neither record names the parents or any witnesses and neither marriage appears in the church records, although both Catherines have at least one child baptized in the church records. One Catherine Schoenborn married Joseph Ammel on 30 May 1851. The above mentioned internet databases assign this Catherine as the daughter of J.A.S. and Dorothea Leismann. The other marriage of interest is that on 13 Apr 1847. The names on that record look like Joseph Petre and Catherine Schinborn. However, in a baptism at Mt. Calvary on 25 Dec 1847 for a son Joseph Henry, the parents are given as Joseph Perky and Catherine Schoenborn. You stated in your separate e-mail that had tracked your Catherine Schenborn Pelky back to Johann Schenborn and Anna who were in Stearns Co. in 1860. Therefore, I believe it is reasonable to conclude that she is the Catharina born on 3 Aug 1828 to J.A.S. and Anna Schwickert.

    1. Sophia Augusta Miller
    2. Am searching for information on the burial site of Sophia Augusta MILLER, d. 1873 somewhere around Ripon or Rosendale. After her death, her husband, Charles F., took all 6 of their children and moved to South Dakota. Am also trying to find the birthplaces for Albert A., Charles W., and Alfred Paul, 3 of the children that were supposedly born in Ripon. I have written to the U of W in Oshkosh with no luck. Any help leading me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!

    1. Re: UTSCHIG FAMILY-MT. CALVARY
    2. Dennis - thank you for your information and help. Julia Utschig who married Benj. Bittner was the sister of Theresa, whose family I'm searching for. I had found that record but couldn't tie it in at the time. I now have. Apparently the mother of these girls died early and they were put out to friends or relatives. Julia was found living as an "adopted daughter" at age 12 with an entirely different family. I'm sure this is what happened to Theresa but I can't find her. But thanks for the help. Possibly the other names are descendents of someone in the family - at least I have a couple more clues! Pam
