The first Fond du Lac man to shed blood on a southern battlefield in the civil war was William A. Matthews of Co. G, 1st Wis. Volunteers, who was severely wounded in the Battle of Falling Waters in July 1861 in Virginia. (1880 hist of Fdl, pg 553)

She is further survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Carolyn was preceded in death by one sister, Grace Rozek and two brothers Don and Lawrence Novitske.

Survivors include two sons, Brian Tautges and his wife, Patricia, of Fond du Lac, and their children, Lynsey, Cole and Tyler, and Evan Tautges, and his wife, Terri, of Fond du Lac, and their children, Troy, Teri and Tanya; one daughter, Donna Tautges of Redondo Beach, Calif.; and six grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Leslie Sommerfeldt, and his wife, MaryAnn, of Redlands, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Dolores Malberg and her husband, Veryl, of Yuma, Ariz., and Jean Tautges of Fond du Lac.

This should have been Johann and Elizabeth. I found the marriage record for Johann and Elizabeth in the St. Mary's Catholic church records in Racine, WI. Johann and Elizabeth were married on June 5, 1850. One of the witnesses was Phil Zirbes. Johann was born on Feb. 5, 1822, and Elizabeth was born on July 22, 1827. Elizabeth's birthdate from her marriage record in Racine, WI matches the month and year given in her 1900 census record in the St. Joseph Twp., Stearns Co., MN. Johann Horsch and Elizabeth Zirbes moved to Stearns Co., MN about the same time that John Peter Rothstein and Catherine Horsch immigrated from Germany to Stearns Co. This information, along with other evidence, indicates that Johann Horsch was the brother of Michael, Christian and Catherine.
