    1. Gagnon/1932 Fond-Du-Lac phonebook / Free
    2. Susan Perry
    3. I have a 1932 Phonebook (Wisconsin Telephone Company) for Fond Du Lac. It is quite "browned" and soiled, but totally intact and very readable. I would like to give it to the appropriate place/person. I myself, have no research interests in the Fond-Du-Lac area. I bought a bunch of stuff at an auction, here in Ann Arbor, years ago (1965-70'ish) and this happened to be in it. Was from the home of a Francis Gagnon - - apparently related to a B.P. Gagnon, a plumber, who was in Fond-Du-Lac at that time. Don't know why I've kept this box of stuff all this time, but would like to dispose of it properly. I also have a number of letters relating to this family (Francis and Barney P. Gagnon) and would like them to get to the rightful family as well, if anyone is researching this name. I've checked Rootsweb and other on-line resources - - find lots of Gagnon's, but have not readily found anyone researching this particular name and location. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/jEC.2ACE/1324.1.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Found the Wrucks in the 1900 census in Black Wolf Twship thanks to you. It has months and years of birth along with middle initials. (I was looking in the 1900 Eldorado township and couldn't find them.) Listed: John M, born June 1851, age 48. This is much closer to your info, and depending on the date of the Declaration of Intent showing him 66, it could be 1851 or 1852. Augusta W. b. Aug. 1853, age 46; Albert C. b. Jan 1879 age 21; John M. b. May 1881, age 19; Frederich H. b. May 1881, age 19 (TWINS!); Clara A. b. August 1884 age 15; Martha M. b. Mar. 1886 age 14; Otto A. b. Feb. 1888 age 12; Lena L. b. Jan 1890 age 10; Edward J. b. Nov. 1892 age 8; Mata (note spelling) M. b. April 1894 age 6; and Linde (note spelling) O. b. March 1878 age two. All the children were born in WI. John is listed as farmer; Albert C., John M., and Frederich H. listed as farm labor. The interesting thing is that Augusta is listed as having 13 children, with only 11 living at the time. That would account for Frederick Wm Otto and Emma Marie dying in that butchering accident. I'm wondering if the church records on Emma might be wrong, with Emma dying at age 6 YEARS, not 6 months. It would make sense since my Emma born Jan. 1880 would have been about 5 (or 6) depending on the month the accident happened. Can't figure Frederick Wm Otto into this though. Any ideas? (By the way, with your info combined with the census, I have 14 children-I have no info on Alberta, Emily, or Frederick Wm. Otto. They either were born and died between 1880 and 1900, or else maybe one/some were born after 1900, which is possible since in 1900 her last was only 2. Also, census says John immigrated in 1864 which you probably already know through the Declaration, and Augusta immigrated in 1868. Since I'm concentrating on Augusta's side since Augusta is my great grandmother Elise's sister, I would be interested in their children and the names of their spouses, etc. I'll check Eldorado's 1910 census when time permits! I'll let you know if I find anything more, if you like.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/jEC.2ACE/1324.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Yes, correct Wrucks for sure. Carl (or Charles in English) is his dad born 1813. I doubt the census information on his (John's) age. My records come from his baptismal record of the Gramenz Church in Germany (LDS Library--permanent loan in Shawano) full name of John Ernest Martin. Also his citizenship papers, Declaration of Int. only-- lists him at 66 years in 1918--back to 1852. It may have been a misunderstanding in translation (German to English) or someone did not know and guessed at his age when giving the information for the census. Concerning the missing children, that is some of them, I know that there are at least 3 who died in infancy or childhood. Two of them (Frederick Wm Otto and Emma Marie) scalded to death from an incident while butchering was going on in the year 1885. I do not think this is your same Emma because she is listed in the church death record as being 6 months old, or maybe this is the wrong Emma--the one at 6 months old--- in the accident? Don't know for sure now. Like you this is not a direct ancester, so did not explore this to a great length. There are probate records (Fond du Lac County). It says they purchased a farm in 1904--dairy farm. Maybe one of these direct ancesters will see this and answer both our questions. Concerning the area and looking up things in this area you will need to check 4 townships records before being complete. Two in Winnebago county--Black Wolf (very common) and Utica (seldom--but worth checking as last resort) Townships. Then two in Fond du Lac County---Friendship (common) and Eldorado (number 3 in my list of look ups) Townships. This area was settled by the Germans from central Pommern (Kries Nuestettin) area, unfortunately this area sits on a county line, making the search a little frustrating at times. If you need more information on this area let me know; grew up in the area so know it rather well. My records say that John Wruck and family moved from Black Wolf (know where that land was--no buildings left now) to Eldorado in 1904. Hope this helps. Thanks for the dates and names will add to my records. Ron

I also found the Wruck family in the 1880 Black Wolf Township Census listing John, age 24 (which would make his birth year 1856-you have him as 1852), Augusta, age 26, two children: Emma b. Jan. 1880 and Albert-age 2 (b. abt. 1878), and John's widowed father, Charles, age 67. Are we talking the correct Wrucks? I suppose you can tell by the name of John's father. If so, then we may have found those missing children you referred to! I also checked the Eldorado census of 1900 but couldn't find them. Deb

    3. Aha! I pressed my nose to the screen and read every line of the Spencer Journal (thank you, Joel!), hoping to find any of "my" family. Closest I got was 1897.....June 7 - Cool, fine. Mr. Berhite living on Second Str. Cut his throat this morning at 7 o'clock. He is a brother to John Steens wife. Mr. Berhite is (or rather, was) Tunis I. Burhyte, son of John T. Burhyte and his wife Matilda. Tunis was born July 14,1849 and died June 7, 1897.... by his own hand, apparently. He is buried in Rienzi, has a great big stone and a smaller Masonic stone next to it and adjacent to the monument for his grandparents, parents, Aunt Hannah, her granddaughter Hannah, and Tunis' brother Harvey. His aunt, Hannah (sister of John T.) Burhyte Corey Dobie was my great great grandmother. Her first husband, John Burhyte Corey, my great great grandfather died in Libby Prison during the Civil War. John's parents were William Harris Corey and Katherine Burhyte Corey. As usual, any information about them is welcome :-) Joel and Tracy.... could the ?? entry on July 30, 1893 be "Asa"? could the ?? entry on October 9, 1894 be "straightened"? could the ?? entry on November 18, 1898 be "killed"? Thanks again... when you're having a bad day, read this Journal again..... and be grateful for our relatively easy lives.... Sue

    3. Here is another source of information recently added to the Fond du Lac website. Bezaleel Spencer Jr., one of the very early pioneers of the township of Byron, kept a journal from 1872 up to his death in 1900. He made daily entries, mainly recording the temperature and weather for the day, and activities of his farm and crops. But more important for genealogists, Bezaleel wrote brief notes on funerals, birthday gatherings and special events that he attended. These funeral notes alone are a good source of information for a time when it was not required to file death certificates. So, if you have lost a relative, especially near the Byron/Oakfield area of Fond du Lac county, check out Bezaleel's journal. You can find it at http://www.rootsweb.com/~wifonddu/scrapbook/spencer/spencer.html A very big THANK YOU to Joel Germond of Wisconsin Rapids, a descendant of Bezaleel, who transcribed the genealogical data from this journal, and then forwarded a copy of his transcription to me! It's donations like this that help to make the Fond du Lac website great. Thanks Tracy
