I have some children - Harriet DOB 1850, Julias DOB 1854, Frank William DOB 8 April 1875,William Herman DOB 3 April 1878. This Drews family lived just south of Ripon. William and Minnie died in either the late 1870s or early 1880s. At that time all the children were seperated, with the younger children being placed in foster homes. I believe there are five other children, probably born in the late 1850s and1860s. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You
I need some advice on what would be an effective procedure to find a newspaper account of an accident that happened between 1870 and 1880. I have Timothy BURKE b. 1862 Ireland, immigrated @1866. He is in the 1870 census - Oshkosh, Winnebago. However, in the 1880 census he is listed as "leg taken off". I'm guessing that it was an accident - railroad??? - and that it may have made the local newspaper. He is in Chicago by 1890 (no, I didn't find that in the non-existent 1890 census, he was a witness at a wedding). Kelly Ward, Schoolcraft, Michigan

New to this List - Just today got some obscure information today that leads me to this county. Have tried to read about my husband's family lines in the Archives, but the surname BEST is hard to search for. You get many hits for "Best wishes...", ...what is the best way to proceed...", "...I have found the best book on..." and the like. Sophie BEST was born Fond du Lac on april 7, 1865. I realize finding legal records of her family might be difficult, but what exists in books/archives for early surnames or pioneer families ? The familiy was probably gone from the area by 1900, hopefully one of the 10 children may have remained. Looking in the 1880 census for the Dakota territory shortly. I remain hopeful ! Supposedly the parents were Charles BEST and Sophie BERIENCE [born Germany, 1835]. The daughter Sophie married a Joseph GRALAPP and moved to South Dakota. Looking forward to any suggestions for places to write, call or eMail. Meg Greenwood / Oklahoma

I think we definitely have a connection. The LINDNERs are married with the HELLER family 3 times, one of whom was the ex-wife of Julius STREBE. I went to school with the Delbert PETH children whose grandmother was Edna LINDNER HUEBSCHMAN. I know that we have an illegitimate Thurwachter in the LINDNER family but also Thuerwachters through the SCHA(E)FERs. Some of the HELLERs and STREBEs lived in Calumetvillewhich is a small village, extending a bit into Calumet County, on Lake Winnebago. It's in Calumet Township. I think you might extend your search into Calumet County as well because I know some of the HELLERs where from Brothertown Township. There had been a Mrs.Craig(?) nee Aebischer who had researched the HELLER family. Possibly deceased by now. I'm not sure of her age.
