    3. >From the 26 March 1942 edition of the Altoona Tribune: Local Items Mrs. George Holden of Lake Altoona spent Friday and Saturday with relatives in Minneapolis. Mrs. Bert Jacobson of Lake Altoona visited friends in St. Paul Friday and Saturday and attended the funeral of Mr. Jerry Daily in St. Paul Saturday morning. Mr. Daily, a former passenger conductor on the Omaha Railroad retired about eight years ago, and passed away Thursday night. Mr. and Mrs. John Westberg and Mr. and Mrs. M. Holen of this city attended the Ice Follies in Minneapolis Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. A. Klemstein, Daniles Ave., attended a party given in honor of Herman Strauch in Fall Creek Tuesday evening. The L. A. of the B. of R. T. met at the home of Mrs. George Williamson, Spooner Ave., on Monday evening. After the business meeting cards were played with Mrs. J. McLaughlin and Mrs. E. Garnett receiving first and second prizes respectively. Mrs. Marius Johnson was presented with the door prize. The hostess served a very nice lunch. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Malancon and fmily of Lake Gervais and Mr. and Mrs. Emil Stark and family of St. Paul, were weekend guests at the Walter Malancon home, First Street West. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hotchkiss and children of Kenosha were weekend guests at the home of Mrs. Hotchkiss's parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. Crowley, Garfield Ave. ++++++++++ We finally got our first "real" snow last night up here in the northland. No more brown grass! Santa and his reindeer will be happy that they won't have to take off from cold hard ground. But now they'll have to contend with colder temperatures! Did you know that as of Monday of this week, there still was no frost in the ground? (That's the type of thing you learn when you're friends of a grave digger!) -- Nance (back to making those Christmas presents!)
