Dear Eau Claire Rooters, When I was a child, growing up in Altoona, my siblings and I used to make "Coal Plants" or "Coal Gardens". We remember you started with a glass container of some sort (a pie plate worked well), you dropped in some lumps of coal, added salt, blueing, some food coloring, water?, and...... The "and....." part is what we can't remember. What was the ingredient that was added to make the "salt crystals" grow? ? ? And, did you use water, bleach, ammonia or what? Thanks for your input.
