    3. >From the "Past Events" column of the Altoona Tribune of 26 March 1942: A wreck occurred on the railroad crossing of the Omaha and Milwaukee Railroads in Camp Douglas at 3:30 Sat. morning, Feb. 28, 1931. Omaha Railroad Engineer Matt Coleman and fireman Mons Johnson with new passenger engine No. 601, were on the Victory Limited passenger train No. 515 from Chicago to Minnapolis, when they stopped in Camp Douglas to pick up the mail. The Milwaukee Railroad Co.'s Olympian limited passenger train No. 16, on it's way to Chicago, with passenger engin No. 6409 and 16 passenger cars, run in on the Victory Limited passenger train No. 16. The Milwaukee engine No. 6409 tipped over, killing fireman Emil Wood, and some of the passenger coaches tipped over on the Olympian limited, injuring a few passengers, who were taken to the Sparta hospital. The Omaha passenger enging No. 601 was half tipped over but there were no passengers injured on the Victory Limited. The Milwaukee Railroad Co. built side tracks in Camp Douglas, so that Omaha trains could run east and west between Chicago and Minneapolis and the Milwaukee Railroad Co. trains could run between Chicago and La Crosse. The steam wrecker from Altoona and two Milwaukee railroad steam wreckers picked up the wreck, finishing on Sunday night, March 1, 1931. Passenger engine No. 6409 was sent to the Milwaukee shops for repairs and the passenger coaches on the Olympian were sent to the Milwaukee car shops to be repaired. Passenger engine No. 601 and the Altoona wrecker arrived in Altoona at 1:30 Monday morning, March 2, 1931 and then engine No. 601 was sent to the St. Paul shops for repairs. Engineer James P. Delmore, and fireman Wm. Anderson, with passenger engine No. 1665, on passenger train No. 503 ran into Camp Douglas from Elroy. Passenger train No. 503 and passenger train No. 515, were made up in one train of 12 cars in Camp Douglas. This train was brought to Altoona at 12:30 Satruday afternoon Feb. 28, 1931, by Engineer Matt Coleman, with fireman Mons Johnson, conductor James Shaw and passenger engine No. 1665, and then the same crew took the Victory Limited No. 515 to Minneapolis, leaving Altoona at 12:45 p.m. Feb. 28, and arrived in Minneapolis at 4 p.m. Its scheduled time in Minneapolis at the time was 8:25 a.m. Conductor C. W. Wilcox and brakeman Archie Doolittle were on the Altoona wrecker when it was taken to Camp Douglas. Also in the same column of memories written by Ed. Semisch: The John Burkhart home was badly burned about 3 p.m. Friday, March 10, 1922. The Andrew Bain home was built in 1912. The A. L.
