    3. More "Local Items" from the 5 March 1942 edition of the Altoona Tribune: Mrs. E. LaPage, Bartlett Ave., entertained her sister, Mrs. Gaul, of Chicago last weekend. Miss Patty Proulx of Chippewa Falls was a weekend guest at the E. A. Bredesen home, Garfield Ave. Oscar Lofquist of Superior spent the past week with his daughter, Mrs. Maurice Nelson, Hayden Ave. The Lenten services at the Methodist church this evening, Thursday, have been cancelled until the following Thursday. Mrs. Clara Koppin, Garfield Ave., visited her sister, Mrs. Nels Erickson, in Merrillan Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Raymond and son, of Minneapolis, returned to their home Wednesday after spending a four day visit here with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. Raymond, Garfield Ave. The ladies auxiliary of the B. of R. T. held their regular meeting at the home of Mrs. Roy Taylor, Hayden Ave., last Monday evening. After the business meeting cards were enjoyed. Prizes of defense stamps were awarded to Mrs. P. R. Knobel, Mrs. George Cole, first and second prize winners, respectively, and Mrs. George Greene received the door prize. A tasty lunch was served. Mr. and Mrs. Bud Wold of Eau Claire visited Miss Doris Sveen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Reedle, Hayden Ave., in Madison Sunday and Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Melancon and daughters, First St. West, visited relatives in St. Paul last week. The Homemakers Club will hold its next regular meeting at the home of Mrs. Leon Wright, Third St. West, on Monday evening, Mar. 9 at 7:30 o'clock. Hostesses will be Mms. Mabel Berg, H. Schilling, and Leon Wright. Miss Laura Johnson of Eau Claire was a dinner guest at the George Reedle home, Hayden Ave., Wednesday evening. Miss Evelyn Thurston returned home last week after working for the past few months in Minneapolis. ++++++++++++++ Today, is "another rainy day and Monday", but it's not gonna "get me down".
